I saw their special on TLC a few months back. All I can say is if my name was Jinger or Jedidiah, I'd be real pizzed at my siblings who got off with names like Jason and Jill! What the fluck is a Jinger?
LOL!!! I thought that too, Jinger is AWFUL. I read it as a soft g, like "finger" Lol....
Jill, Jennifer, jason and john better count their blessings, lol!

At least George Foreman isn't their father... Two of his daughters have a derivative of his name (Freeda George and Georgetta), all of Foreman’s five sons bear his name: George Jr, George III, George IV, George V, and George VI.

And what about Julia? That's a perfectly good name for an 18th child.

I saw their show on TLC last week.
Before I saw it I'd say I was a little shocked at the shear numbers as well.
But you know what, they have never been on public assistance, and have taken care of their needs (including schooling) on their own.
They even built their own house 'mostly' by their own labor from the ground up.
Most of all, they are happy.
To each their own.
ITA also.
Both my Mom and Dad and DH's step father are from families of 10+. If they can handle it, and it seems that they can and are happy and healthy - good for them.

I know all about having a different name. It's very difficult on a kid. Any even as an adult, while I like my name, it is a pain always having it mispelled and mispronounced. I think it's silly to invent a spelling of a name that is going to invite it to be mispronounced etc when there are plenty of other J names they could have used.

i come from a family of 5, and although there are always people around and i could not imagine it any other way- we didn't have individual alone time with our parents. unless we were sick, it's just really hard to do with alot of kids.

Don't get me wrong- i kow that this is a common reaction... but i wonder why people think she should stop? They're not out begging for money to raise their kids, so what should it matter??

There will always be this argument. But...I think the 19 of them living in one home is better than celebrities who have ginormous homes, with several in various parts of the world no less, lol...
Just trying to see the flip side

maybe we could ask other countries for some tips about infant genocide, or something similar- freedom is SOOO totally overrated, anyway!!

Think about it this way...in their old age, they're going to have well-funded nursing homes or can stay with each child for 3 weeks a year.

I don't see the connection between overpopulating the planet with all these children and celebrities having huge homes. I agree that having unnecessarily big homes that consume energy and resources for no reason is also wrong, but that doesn't make having all those kids right.
Think of it, if each of those 17 kids had 4 of their own kids and their kids each had 4 kids, those people would have almost 300 great grandchildren. think of all the homes it would take to shelter that brood.

Excuse me, I don't think it's necessary for you to get sarcastic and snotty with me. I think there is difference between having people spayed and just refraining from having upwards of 20 children. Let me explain. I am talking about something called "social conscience." IE: I would hope that people would be able to stop themselves from having as many children as possible, because it's, you know, the right thing to do.

I was sarcastic way before you came along.. i didnt get that way just for you
I disagree with your definition of what's "right", and find it a bit out of line for you to define a limit to how many children a couple chooses to have- and yes, when you say things like that, it's reminiscent of the ways of the chinese government and their practices- so, really, there's not much of a difference at all.
If you want to talk about social conscience- apply to the people with AIDS, drug addictions, etc... who should maybe stop and think about what kind of life they're choosing for their child---- but to put a cap on a couple's procreation (when they are NOT even leaching off of government funds) because they'll have too many graet grandchildren for your liking, that's not social conoscience, its ignorance.

Re: Woman gives birth to 17th child!
Ok, I'm not advocating any Chinese-esque cap on how many children one can have, nor infanticide or forced sterilization.
That said, I have one more point to make on this topic and then I'm shutting up. According to wikipedia, citing estimates from July 2007, there are currently 302,419,072 people living in the United States. If half are female, and each of those females were to produce 17 children like the woman in this story, there would be no less than 2,872,981,184, almost 3 BILLION, people living in this country. I do not think that the Earth can support all these people and that is scary to me. That's all I'm saying.
