wood burning insert for fireplace
Anyone have an insert for their fireplace to burn wood to heat the house? With the price of oil going up and up and up, we've started to look into other options for heat. I know nothing about them though, so I was looking for some feedback. Just the general things.... the cost involved how well it works (or not) any issues Thanks!

Re: wood burning insert for fireplace
Our friend got a pellet stove insert for his fireplace. He said it works great, blows the heat throughout the whole house and he spent $400 for the whole winter in oil. It cost him about $5000 with the installation and the pellets are around $200/ton. He said he went through around 2 tons last year. Now, I know they keep their house on the cool side so keep that in mind. Their house is approximately 2000 sq. feet and it's a one story ranch.

We are going tomorrow to get a wood burning insert. I'am thinking it will be around 3-5K to buy and have installed. There are all different kinds of capacities and styles. Ones we are looking at are Country Stoves, and something called Lopi (my DH found it - Not exactly sure of the name).

Yeh, From the research I've been doing Lopi is one of the better brands. Do you have a masonry (all brick) or a zero-clearance fireplace (metal box)?
