Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
Don't you wish you were a fly on the wall to see what they do all day?
Mason is almost 20 months so of course he can't tell me how his day went at daycare (even though I ask him every night in the car on the way home )
Once in a while I try and get as much info from his teacher as possible. This afternoon I spoke with her b/c I had some questions. I asked her if they teach them sign language in school b/c Mason was doing signs and I didn't even pick it up. My sister did b/c she's a speech therapist and recognized them immediately. She said one kid in their class has an autistic older brother so the toddler in Mason's class knows sign language to communicate. All the kids picked up on it and they do it. I thought it was interesting. She also told me some little things he does or says just at school. While I did love hearing all about it I felt a little guilty that I don't know what's going on. Then I think how happy he is and how much he does there. I could never do all that and he may not even know some of this stuff. Just interesting if you can watch them for a day secretly

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
YES!!!! I think about this all the time - I ask DS everyday too - but he's very brief and acts like he can't be bothered with the question - reminds me of his father
I am grateful that he's in this environment for the same reasons you stated above - more now that I am pregnant and don't have the energy to do all of the activities I usually do with him at home.

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
i swear me and you have the same ideas about daycare!!! and every car ride home i ask, "so ian...how was school?"
the teacher must hate me because im always trying to get more info out of her, yet its 6pm and shes trying to go home.
i feel like i know more when they slip with things. not that they shouldnt tell me, but things they dont think are important to them, but are to me.
i cant wait for him to be old enough to tell me what he does!

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
DS is there 2 days a week..and im amazed at how he does things there that he wont normally do at home.
especially when they tell me that all the toddlers go down for nap at 12 on the cots with their blankies..i couldnt get DS to nap that way if i tried.
his teacher told me that 2 little girls follow DS around all day..its so funny. he must be the ladies man at daycare.

Yes! That's me... I'm always asking how his day is and won't take "good" or "he wasn't himself" etc... as an answer. I want to hear a little story about him b/c everything tiny thing he does at home I think is funny and adorable (well, except the tantrums ) so I want to hear what songs they did and what he likes
She did tell me one story that every time they do "If you're Happy and you Know it" that when they get to the part about "stomping feet" he grabs Miss Lisa's hand and makes her stomp his feet. She did it once for him and he thought it was the greatest thing so now she has to stomp him picking him up and down and he laughs hysterical

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
I'm still on maternity leave, but have continued to send DD to daycare 2 days a week, just because she loves it and we didn't want to disrupte her routine.
My daycare has cameras so I can check in on her during the day. Sometimes I see her running around like a lunatic, other times I see her just sitting and playing, or during their story/music time.
I can't wait though until she can tell me about her day!

see...thats the things we want to hear.
i forgot to tell the teacher (even tho his old teacher knew) that Ian is afraid of blowing bubbles. he loves when you blow them...but DO NOT pop them! he freaks out! so the assistant popped it and he wouldnt go near her for a week.

Awe... poor Ian LOL
Eh, It's something you'll tell his girlfriend when he's 16
That's ok... Mason fears stuffed animals that can sing and dance. Thank goodness they don't have any of them at daycare. There's an outlet in our new house that wasn't covered and it's behind the couch (but you can still get to it). DH has to fix it, but for now we keep a dancing and singing chicken there to protect it and keep Mason away. He won't even go back there now

Too cute!! I still can't believe I didn't know Mason was saying "all done" in sign the other night when we were eating (had the family over to watch the game... Ugh, we know how that ended) Anyway, that's why I called and spoke with his teacher. I think it's great and I can't believe how much he learns

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
They send home a sheet everyday. The front of the sheet says how many diapers were changed, what and how much she ate, and her nap times. Then the whole back of the sheet is a long paragraph about what she did all day.
I love reading about her day.

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
I'd love to spy for a day or so.
DS's school has a soccer program (Happy Feet) - I got to spy on that and take pictures. It was so awesome to see him listen to the coach and do what he was told.
DS will be 3 in a few weeks - he still doesn't tell me what he does so don' think once he starts talking more you'd get more info from him.
All I get is he played with ms. lori and ate lunch... he doesn't even tell me what he ate and he's a talker.
If I can't spy - I wish they'd take pics and at least show me circle time, nap time, random play things - like the playground.

Re: Working Moms who send their kids to daycare
One parent gave the teachers a video camera to capture their child's day. They made copies for all of us.
While I know the teachers were taping and on their A game it was fun to watch circle time and water play, etc.
This was when he was in the 19-24 month room.

OMG - what a great idea!!! I should def. remember to do this!
The teachers at daycare are really great (when I see them!) I hate when I pick up DS and it's someone from another room filling in the gaps at the end of the day. I always hear at least one great story, but sometimes I wonder if they tell all the parents the same hoopla! They always tell me how great DS is, that he never cries or complains, etc... but at home I get the opposite - especially now that tantrums are on full force, so I wonder.....
