worried about my boy (vaccine related)
he got his shots today. (please, i'm not looking to hear your opinions on wether or not i did the right thing) my son has not developed any redness, swelling or fever...but he's been so drowsy & mushy. I'm scared to put him to bed. i know this is a normal side effect from what i read but seeing him so helpless is breaking my heart. he still kicks his feet and lifts his head and cries but he's not nearly as energetic as he usually is.
did you ladies experience this?

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
normal or not it is hard. I HATED It!! LOATHED IT and frankly became a monster of anger and disgust. It was my way of coping with the helplessness.
Psst, I still get angry LOL Its the mama lion in me.. i don't mind the shots (a few tears, some pain, even a bruise) but I hate anything and anyone who makes my baby feel blue or sluggish (or just not right).

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
My son was exactly the same way after his first round.of shots! It's so sad to see them that way! It is a totally normal reaction though, and should pass in a day or 2 and then your little man will be back to his usual energetic self! Hang in there mama!

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
please dont stress about it ...this is completely normal..and he will be back to his usual energetic self prob as early as the next day!
You may even enjoy some extra hours of sleep through the night! That is how I looked at it!
Hope that is the case!
Good luck!

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
I still worry every time my DS gets shots and he is almost 14 months. The first month was the hardest though, he came home and slept all day, which is not him. He also got a fever. He never has done well with his shots so we try to only give him one shot a month.

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
Did you give your kid anti-fever meds too? I always did (as per MD) & honestly thought it helped.
The experience of going to the pediatrician (shots or not) knocks DS out.

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
thanks ladies. he seems to be a good deal better this morning. his cries are still a little weaker and whinier than usual...but he was smiling at me this morning and woke up right on time for his feeding. I had him in bed with me last night just so i could watch him and make sure he was ok. he definitely got more sleep than I did. god, this kid is going to have me wrapped around his finger when he gets sick isn't he? lol

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
Yes. My DD who NEVER slept as a newborn- slept a LOT the day of her shots.
It's totally normal! (And it's also totally normal to be so worried as a new mom too! )

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
totally normal - DDs shots are broken up so her 2 and 4 month shots she was extra cuddly (Clingly) but baby tylenol helped her a lot - she only ever needs one dose and by the end of the day she is back to her normal happy self.
for her 3 month shots she was much more groggy and not necessarily unhappy but not as happy as usual for a few days after. The doctor said that could be expected and will probably happen again at 5 months.

Re: worried about my boy (vaccine related)
This is very normal after shots...whether you gave one or five. I would give my son some Motrin and he would just sleep it off.
