Family member refers to your baby by a name you've never expressed any interest in using every time they refer to baby. Ie, how is Sophie , Sophie looks cute in her ultrasound pictures etc.

Eww what!? That would annoy the crap outta me. Don't name my kid. If anything people are free(er) to say, "how's the munchkin?" etc

If they were serious, yes it would bother me.

When I was PG my family and a co-worker gave the baby nicknames because we were keeping the name a secret. My co-worker would say oh how is little Martin doing today because her name was Martine. My family would call the baby Hercules.

that would definitely make me furious! i think it's just the general people assuming they "know" more about your baby than they really do. My DH and I are diehard hockey fans (him the rangers, me the islanders) and my MIL won't stop with the "Can't wait for the newest ranger fan to be born". what is it about pregnancy that makes people think they have a claim to what's happening in my uterus?

Yes, it would and it does. I have people do it all the time. I just ignore them completely. We don't have a name picked yet, we are waiting to see him so I guess this a lot.

My college friends keep referring to my baby as Marina (because my husband's goal in life is to have a Marina). It was a joke that didn't bother me until they said it out loud at the baby shower and other people jumped on it.

Some family members, who were only paying mild attention when I explained the joke, actually think we chose that name. It's annoying me.

who does that??? my old boss would joke and say...How's baby Oren? (that is my bosses name). but to pick a name and use it??? oh hell no! how did you respond to that??

Said her name isn't Sophie, why are you saying that ? He said I need to have something to call her, can't call her an it. Next time he does it , I am gonna call him out.

If they were serious, yes, it would likely annoy me. If it was done in a joking manner, I wouldn't care. Since we found out we're having a girl and shared the news, my mom has been referring to the baby as Tallulah Belle. Knowing that she is not serious at all, I think its cute :)

It's funny bc once we found out it was a girl the obvious next question is do you have any names picked out...now with my son we kinda knew the name we wanted and so did our family/ friends but I never referred to him as Jason until he was born and that's what we named him and my family never did either. This time we're pretty sure we're going with Brooke and I still don't refer to her as Brooke but my mom does and it's kind of annoying! To me her name isn't her name until she's born and we look at her and decide bc you never know if you wanna change the name last min or anything!
But in your case that would annoy the shit out of me!!!!

Are they doing it to be funny? Or are they serious, as in they hope you are taking their name suggestion seriously?

My co-worker calls my baby a name and I think its funny but so does she. It's not like she thinks I'm taking her name suggestion seriously.

I am naming my son Vincent. I only tell people if they ask but when I tell them I say I don't want anyone calling him Vinny. It's either Vincent or Vince.

I would def. put a stop to it now if I was you! People are nuts!

Unless it was THEIR name then I would think it was strange, like my friend always said to me "How's baby Jane" which is her name, she was kidding, different.

This would annoy me... if they feel the need to call the baby anything, I'd say Baby M for my last name. Personally I hate when people ask about baby names before the baby is born and I'd rather not even know other ppl's kids baby names in advance. Why can't some things be left as a surprise until they're born?

Coming up with a completely different name for their own purpose is just rude IMO. Has the person considered it's not about them??

My dad did that my entire pregnancy and even got other family members to start referring to my impending child by that name. He kept joking that I was going to name DD after him so he feminized his own name and referred to DD as that the entire time. He meant no harm, but it really did get quite annoying by the end, especially since the rest of my extended family was in on the "joke"
