Re: Would you be ok with this?

No but I allowed it anyway.

DH & ILs took ds when he was 4. I had a hard time with it for a while & felt robbed of a first.

No I wouldn't be okay with it but for personal reasons. I would not stop it because my children would have so much fun but I would be a bit jealous that I couldn't be there.

Re: Would you be ok with this?

Yes 100%.

There are 2 issues:
1. Trust- Do you trust them to care for your child? Surely the answer is yes.
2. Reaction- YOU want to see their reaction to Disney. You dont want to miss out.

So you have 3 choices:

1. Let the kid go.
2. Dont them them go because YOU want that experience with them.
3. You go with them.

H-E-L-L to the NO!!!!! No way, no how!! I remember my first time at Disney as a kid and I was BLOWN AWAY!!! My parents still talk about how amazing it was bringing my siblings and I there for the first time and seeing the looks on our faces. I cannot wait to take my DD and there is NO way under the sun I would EVER let someone else do that with her before me. Not a chance!

Edit - I am not big on my DD's "firsts" being with anyone else. To me, there are things in her life that are reserved for us as parents to share with her before anyone else. In my book, Disney is one of them.

Re: Would you be ok with this?

For me, no, I would def not want MIL or my parents to take DD for her 1st trip to Disney. As the majority of people stated, I feel like Disney is such a magical place and I don't want to miss a minute of DD's 1st trip there.

Now on the other hand, say I couldn't afford to take her myself . . . THEN I'd let the grandparents take her (if they were competent and could be trusted with her, of course!). I wouldn't deprive her of the experience if I couldn't afford it just becuase I'd miss seeing her face, kwim?

I think your IL's comments about wanting her first time to be with THEM sounds really selfish and inappropriate. You're the PARENT, you get "first dibs" on special things with your kids. Sometimes I really wonder how grandparents conveniently "forget" what it's like to be the parent! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Would you be ok with this?

No way. That is why from the very beginning we planned a WDW trip with the ILs and my parents - so everyone would expirence the first at once.

Of course, I insisted that DS's first Disney park be Disneyland, and H happened to win tickets and hotel, so next week will be his first Disney trip!!

Re: Would you be ok with this?

No way! We can't wait to take DS and future children to Disneyworld. My In-laws are more then welcome to come with us for the first time, but I better be there.
