We have a split and there aren't bathrooms on our main floor. 2 full upstairs and a half on our den level.
Same. In our case, it's not a big deal because "upstairs" or "downstairs" is five steps. But in a cape or colonial or any other layout with a full flight of stairs, that would be a deal breaker.
Ah, good point. Also, if the house was our forever house I may feel differently. Going up and down a lot of stairs at 70 years old is not ideal. But we're in our mid-30s and plan on moving again in a few years.

It wouldn't be a complete dealbreaker for me if the house checked all the other boxes that are important. But it might bug you over time if you're thinking about it now.

Not a chance. It's so convenient having a bathroom on the first floor I couldn't function with it. I'd hate to have to run upstairs every single time.

Re: would you buy a house if...
My friend did and regrets it. She didn't think guests needing to go upstairs was a huge deal.. but when she was 9 months pregnant with a toddler at home having to go up and down the stairs a million times a day to pee drove her crazy.
Then while she was potty training her older one she said it was very inconvenient. Yes you can use one of those plastic potties but you still need to carry the bowl of pee or poop upstairs to flush it and clean it out.

Definitely not. My ILs and mom both have problems with stairs, and I would never want to force them to go up or down stairs just to use the bathroom. Other guests sometimes have issues with steps as well.
this was our concern as well.

Re: would you buy a house if...
I grew up in a large colonial and we always only had 1 bathroom on the second floor (which consisted of only bedrooms), my husband did as well. I never thought twice about it until I got my own house (ranch) with a bathroom on the same floor.
If I LOVED the house I would go for it.

Re: would you buy a house if...
No, I wouldn't for the reasons mentioned here. That said, we renovated our downstairs bath last year and it was out of commission for a few weeks. We are in a colonial with a full staircase and a wrap around top floor and I wanted to die running up and down the steps all day, pregnant, with a 2yo. And it was really annoying for guests too.
