Would you go for more than one IVF consult?
So I made an appt for an IVF consult on 5/14 at NSUH with Dr. Hershlag but I was wondering if you just stayed with your RE or did you get a 2nd opinion? At that time I will be hopefully pregnant or moving onto IUI #6...I have had no issues there so would there be a reason...
I am so nervous that we are potentially going this route but I am excited at the same time...eeek!!!

i guess it depends on the level of comfort and trust you have in your doctor. If you are comfortable with him/her and their practice and how they have treated you so far, you should continue on with them. But if you want to put your mind at ease and get a second opinion, you should certainly do so.
Either way, lots of luck being sent your way!

First let me say I love Dr. Herslag; he is so sweet. Anyway to answer your question...I made an appointment with North Shore and RMA and the North Shore appt came first and I went and they began testing right away so I never made it to the RMA appt. I felt comfortable with them from day 1. How many IUI's do you have to have b4 they suggest IVF??

I am on IUI #5 and I was the one who mentioned the IVF consult...I would like to be prepared for what may come... I know DH would like for me to stay with one RE but I was wondering if it was normal to not look around...

Honestly.. I think it can't hurt to make other consults just so if you do stay with NSUH, you know you are making the best most informed decision.
Just so you know though... some doctors take a LONG time to get a consult with. If you are debating going for other opinions, I'd make the appt NOW. If you change your mind for some reason, you could always cancel.
I went for opinions basically everywhere! So if you have any questions about various offices, I amy be able to help.

I actually had a second consult set up when I got my BFP. I ended up cancelling it because I didn't need it. But I was planning on going- it doesnt hurt to get a second opinon.

I should add that I was 100% out of pocket for ivf and also had immune issues which not all drs treat. One dr would allow me to be to be treated for immune by another re and the other wouldn't. The one I chose had a mini ivf option and treated immune issues.

Re: Would you go for more than one IVF consult?
I would go for a second consult, too. At least you can compare protocols and see what they will change up for you- I am dead set against doing the same old thing over and over, then not working.
You're also your own advocate (I know you know it with the Femara thing) so no matter where you end up, you will always get to help steer your treatment in the right direction.

Re: Would you go for more than one IVF consult?
Thanks guys!! I think we may just go and talk to someone to see what the protocol would be and the cost so we can make an informed decision...Does anyone have a recommendation? I have already been to RSNY for 2 IUI's and I wasnt the happiest there so I dont think I want to go back...I have GHI so I want someone who takes that insurance...is my only option LI IVF?

Genesis Fertility accepts GHI. Dr. Grazi and Dr. Seifer are consistently rated in the top 10 REs in NY. I know they have an office on LI.
