Would you go on a European cruise with a 2yo and 4yo?
I was supposed to go to France with DH alone but I told him I only want to travel with the kids. Now we are looking into a cruise with the boys. Not sure if it is going to be too much of a hassle.
The 2 cruises we are looking into are the Disney Mediterranean cruise and the Norwegian Epic Mediterranean cruise.
Would you go on a European cruise with a 2yo and 4yo?

I would only consider the Disney one. But that's because in addition to touring, I would like to have a meal or two alone with DH. And I believe NCL changed the camp age to 3.

Re: Would you go on a European cruise with a 2yo and 4yo?
I personally wouldn't. I have been on a Mediterranean cruise. It's way too long and way too much sight seeing to have two little kids with me. Especially in such a small room. Even if it was a Disney cruise. Now I might take them on a Disney cruise to the Caribbean. The only thing that stinks with that is if your two year old is not potty trained they don't let them in the pool.
Now it depends on how you and your husband are and your kids temperament. I know my older DS and he would not do well on such a long flight and trip.

Re: Would you go on a European cruise with a 2yo and 4yo?
Sure I would! Was looking at European cruises just yesterday. Our kids would be the same age as yours at the time.
I really enjoy cruises and think it makes for a no hassle way to see many places. We did a med. cruise a few years ago, I do remember a few families with children. Stroller was key when going to visit cities, and you can't do bike tours, but it should make for a fun vacation. Good friends of ours just did an Alaska cruise with their kid and had a blast!
Gotta be easy going and realize you won't have the same experience as if you went solo.

I would and we hope to go in 2014 (kids will be a little younger).
I went to a european cruise a couple of years ago and remember seeing families with little kids and that was what motivated it to do it when we have kids. I think it will be a different experience not as intense in terms of sight seeing but i think it would still be fun.

Re: Would you go on a European cruise with a 2yo and 4yo?
I would consider or at least look into the disney one, but you have to have realistic expectations. I think disney has more family friendly tours. One thing to check is if there are age restrictions for their tours. When we went on celebrity to Bermuda the minimum age was 3. Not sure if this is for cruises in general or just ours. What are your kids temperments like. Are they okay shopping, sitting in cafes, going to museums or are they more active and would want to go, go, go.
Are you okay not hitting all the major historical things (ruins, museums, churches etc) or are you okay just exploring the streets, hitting some beaches.
I am waiting until the girls are older for this cruise bc I was an art history major so I know I would want ti see some of the cultural things and nit just window shop and do the beaches if I am in Europe. My girls love museums but I don't think they would want to see them every single day. It isn't the right time for us. But I know people who had realistic expectations and had a blast. Do you have family that can come and help a day or two if you want to do a more adult tour like wine tasting or more intensive touring?

Re: Would you go on a European cruise with a 2yo and 4yo?
We did a Med cruise and one thing to consider is there may be extremely long days.
We went from Barcelona - Rome - Naples - Florence - Nice - Marseille.
Most of our excursions started at 6:30 or 6:45 am. We had to gather up with the group and the 3 cities in Italy were at least an hour drive. We were out until maybe 4 or 5 pm. We had the late dinner which was 9:45 pm. There was other food available (buffet and a few other choices).
We had a fantastic trip but it was long days, a lot of walking, and we were tired. I'm not sure how little ones would handle those conditions.

I think by the 2nd day I would want the boat to break down and to come and be rescued so we could go home.

The cruises I am looking into are also France-Spain-Italy. I have been to most of these cities already so I don't feel as much pressure to see as much as I can.
I would be ok with just seeing 1-2 sights and eating a nice meal.

My main concern is the flight and small cabins. The longest flight we have been on was a flight to AZ. I think it was about 4 hours long and it was MISERABLE. Our kids are now older though.
I am not that concerned about the actual time in the cities. We will probably only want to be out for 4-5 hours and we would bring our double stroller.

NCL no longer does the drop off 2 year they moved it to three. So no programs for 2's. I think it is a mommy and me deal or nothing. Can't remember but I know last year there was a big uproar on cruise critic bc they changed the age from 2 to 3.

No... For the simple fact that Europe is a place for touring around and I'm not doing that with kids that young in tow. I am all for cruises but I'd prob do more caribbean cruises with kids and save the Europe for a special adults trip

We were hoping for a great kid's club so that at some ports, just DH and I could go out for a few hours solo and then bring the boys to other ports.
I think we will have to wait for DS#2 to be 3 for a cruise.

Have you traveled abroad with them before? The time difference and their adjusting to it would be my biggest fear.
