I would never go for my 15 year old SD getting that.

Would you let your 15 year old...

I would let my DC get it. Like others said, it's not permanent.

Yes. But like everything she has to "earn" it. Get good grades or have some goal and then yes.

Re: Would you let your 15 year old...

I don't have an immediate "no way" reaction so I suppose I'd consider it. DH would definitely not.

We are of the "when you're old enough to ask for it" school, when it comes to ear piercing.

I agree- this would be the only way I would agree to this. Also, I would only allow a stud, not a hoop.

Re: Would you let your 15 year old...

I'm not sure. If it were a tattoo it would be 110% NO. But a piercing is not permanent. I'd also be much more apt to say yes if she were 16.

If it was an ear piercing (like the cartilage area or a 2nd hole) I would absolutely say yes. The nose is the thing holding me back...its smack dab on your face.

I think if I were in your shoes I would tell her if she still wants it when she turns 16, she can get it. Give her a year to mull it over Chat Icon

I don't think I would. But even if I was leaning toward "yes", DH would never ever go for it.

How far off is she from 16? I might say if you want it, you can get it for your 16th birthday. Then she can think a little more about it and maybe by then not even want it. If she still did, I'd take her to get it.

No. When she is old enough to do it without parental consent she can - that's what I say now lol

Re: Would you let your 15 year old...

Nothing on your face till 18 and I would be against it because I don't like it. But I also wouldn't let my child dye their hair till they are 16. Tattoos after you graduate college unless you are on your own at 18 and I have no say in the matter. Only reason because I feel they will regret a tattoo at that age. I would also be against it if they are just doing it because everyone else is doing it but not because they love it.

My son cam pierce his ears at 16 if he wants but only if he is in public school by then. SS was allowed but didnt want to, not his style. I always talk to SS about tattoos since he is approaching 18 in several months.

if my 15 year old was an overall good kid and doing exceptionally well in school i would consider it.

but i am also the mom who is considering letting my 5 year old dye the ends of her hair pink this summer lol (its a wash out and will be cut off by the time she starts school)

This! If my DD was a good kid and worked hard in school, then I would say yes. Not so sure about DH

I wanna say no as a gut reaction but I remember being a teenager and trying so hard to establish my own identity and individuality. I would have to gauge her level of maturity and the reason why she wants it done.

I am super old-school about a lot of topics, but as far as self-expression goes (within reason), I hope to be more liberal when the time comes. With that said...

I'd probably make her wait until 16.

Although that point is moot because my kids go to Catholic school and I can't see a chance in hell that would be allowed. Chat Icon

When I was 15, my hair was teased a foot tall, how can a small nose stud look any more stupid than that?! Chat Icon

I asked DH, who is typically pretty liberal about things, what his opinion was and he said no way. Once she's 18, she can do what she wants.

I'm not sure. I would much prefer a tiny stud nose ring than an eyebrow ring or those ear things that makes your lobes into giant holes. I would probably wait until 16, though.

ITA. I don't have teenagers yet so I think it's hard to say but i think at 15 a lot will be about how mature they are with something like a piercing. I think my dh would flip about it.

That's not really true. Once you take it out you're left with an obvious hole. So in a way it doesn't leave a permanent mark.

My parents didn't let me get anything pierced. When I was 17 I got my tongue secretly done (God that is so embarassing to admit!) if I had gotten a nose ring I would be really pissed about it now if I had a mark on my face.

My parents still to this day don't know I got it lol. I would not let my dd get at 15. Obviously at 18 she could take herself but would strongly discourage.

I am a pretty laid back mom. I will admit I am considering it. My daughter is in the top of her class, 13th out of 425 students in her grade. She is exceptional in all ways, so I didn't see the harm in it. Obviously that's the only thing I'd let her pierce besides her ears.

I understand and mom, it's your child and you know best.

BUT, consider a few things -- her future when she goes to interview at jobs. The fact that it'll leave a hole so if she ever says, hey I don't want this anymore, it'll always be there as a reminder.

The fact that it could get caught and ripped out causing injury. Ok, I'm reaching with that one but I'm just trying to think of all the possible issues.

I'm spit-balling here but is there a way to get something that you stick here, like as decor, that has adhesive but isn't permanent -- you know, kids these days put shit in their hair like that, little sparkles and such. It's not permanent and adheres to the hair. I used to put little glitter stickers around my eyes. Just a thought.

Here's the thing - there was a lot of shit I did as a kid that I am so glad didn't leave any permanent mark whatsoever. You grow up, you change a lot and that's what makes me worry about having this hole in her nose.

Sure it MAY close up but probably not. And who wants to chance that?? Not this gal!

I have to tell you.. it will close up, and there will be no evidence that it was ever there.
I had my nose pierced (it was a ring) in college and it NEVER got caught on anything. I took it out when i needed to and then when i was done with it, it closed up permanently.

IMO its a minor thing and if the kid is doing it as a way of expressing their individuality, i'm ok with it. If its part of a larger rebellion then that might be different..

But, i also have 7 piercings in one ear, used to have my nose and nipple pierced (all since taken out) and have multiple tattoos.. so maybe i'm more accepting of it all.
My DH had multiple piercings when we met, and most of those have since come out as well, except for the gauges in his ears

I think the argument about it being looked at negatively for a job interview or college can be valid, and the good thing about a nose piercing is that it can easily come out when needed, and if it get removed permanently, its really like it was never there. if there's a scar, its the size of a pore, which as we all know are larger on our noses anyway Chat Icon
