Re: Would you say something?

I would say something, as I would want someone to tell me if I forgot something.

Whether they forgot the item or not, they still meant to pay for it by putting it in their cart (hopefully), so mentioning it nicely will not hurt anyone. (Of course unless the person wanted to steal it, then good, they deserve to get caught.)

Re: Would you say something?

I would want someone to tell me. If I walked out of the store with something I would be MORTIFIED. I once walked out of a store with a deodorant UNDER my arm and I was so embarassed about it I couldnt even go back in!

Re: Would you say something?

I think i would politely say something.

There have been times I have left a case of water underneath my cart and walked out with it and have been completely embarrassed!

wouldn't say a word.

Not my responsibility and I always put stuff there and I always either tell the cashier or the cashier reminds me.

Re: Would you say something?

I have no desire to get into a confrontation with someone else in a supermarket or any store. People are nuts these days and I could see someone being mad enough that you embarrassed them or made them pay for something they were trying to boost and waiting in the parking lot to harrass. I just don't put it past people anymore. And I go shopping alone or with one or all of my kids 99% of the time, so I am not getting involved.

Plus maybe they told the cashier and he or she plugged the price into the register already. Sometimes they do that. Often if I buy a bunch of soda bottles or a case of water, I tell the cashier it's down below so I don't have to lift another time. To "nicely point out" to someone that they left something in the bottom? Never. It's so obvious that it's not meant nicely.

Oh come on people - Mind your own business !!

A simple "I would mind my own business" would have been just fine.

I would mind my own business - I'm not a "tattletale" - I'm not 6 years old on the playgroung - I don't understand why anyone would feel the need to point that out to a stranger .......? And who wants to get involved and risk pissing off the crazy person in front of you? But that's just what I would do .........I'm not going to call someone out and embarass a stranger in a supermarket -

And yes, I'm the same person who would do that same stranger a favor and remind them if they were forgetting to put something in their trunk .......- You're not embarassing them in front of a line full of people -

Honestly, I wouldnt do it to embarass them. I wouldnt scream it - I would just say that they forgot it. Wouldnt they be MORE embarassed if their order was paid for and then a manager saw it on teh way out? Then, they would have to be inconvenienced and go back to pay for it PLUS the manager is going to assume they tried to shoplift.

Re: Would you say something?

I probably wouldn't. Who knows... maybe if the cashier didn't catch it the woman would've noticed when packing her car in the parking lot and went back in and paid for it.

I guess so .........but I still say it's none of my business or concern to point out that someone is forgetting to pay for an item - Who am I? The Supermarket police? JMO -

I DO understand that part of it - I totally do. This is just one of those things that - when people did it on my line ( as a cashier ) I really appreciate it so I would like to return the favor . . .

But I do understand not wanting to get involved with crazy people. I once stopped a little boy from being crushed by an automatic door ( I knew that the sensor wouldn't see him - he was too short ). I held my arm out and stopped him and then turned him around to his parents. His mother screamed at me. I was never so embarassed as when she screamed "SHE IS TOUCHING MY SON" across the registers. I wanted to die so I understand not wanting to get involved.

Re: Would you say something?

honestly I don't think I'd say something if they forgot.....but it would depend on the situation and whether I felt like getting into a screaming match that day Chat Icon

I have however informed a store when I saw someone walking out w/ something they didn't pay for. about a year ago, I was on the self check out line at Home Depot, there were 2 guys checking out on the other line, when they were done they walked through the double doors and in that area Home Depot was storing some outdoor patio stuff- they grabbed a huge box containing an outdoor swing- and ran like hell for their car.....I seemed to be the only one who saw it, so I told the person manning the self checkout area....she informed management & security, and in the meantime I ran outside to see which way they went. I described the car to them, but they weren't able to find them when they came out. that was easily a $200-$300 swing, so to me this was really outright robbery, not just being negligent and not putting something on the belt. I really felt compelled to say something, my hubby (who wasn't with me at the store) yelled at me when I got home, he was afraid the 2 guys could've went after me if they knew. sorry for the long story, but just wanted to share!

Absolutely not.

Besides, in my supermarket, there is a sign that flashes to each cashier "Check under cart"

I don't need to remind someone to do their job, nor do I need to embarrass people whether they have good intentions or bad.
