Would you send your child to school
I would like to see some updated answers since this was last asked.
Given our current cases/hospitalizations, would you send your child to school today if the school was able to follow guidelines?
I’m curious if the amount of parents who would have their kids continue remote learning would be enough to allow smaller class sizes or if majority of parents would send their kids and it would have no impact on class size.

Would you send your child to school
My daughter is currently going to in-person summer school. I can't answer about September yet, when the school is full, but if they follow all of the guidelines, then probably yes.

Would you send your child to school
I never answered my own question, but I would send my children. Based on the low numbers, the fact that we have been “exposed” and never tested positive (I do not believe it’s as contagious as originally thought, personal opinion), my children’s lack of motivation during remote learning, our inability to do our own jobs, and they are seeing friends already.

Re: Would you send your child to school
In a heartbeat
Her social/emotional health is way more at risk right now than her physical health from this virus as a child her age. I'm actually very concerned about things I am seeing in her development from being home since March. Way more concerned about those things and their long lasting effects for the future than her getting this virus at her age (which I think she already had in March anyway)

Does she need to wear a mask? Is she doing well with all the changes in the classroom?

Would you send your child to school
If things are continuing as they are now with cases being low, I will send them, provided the school follows guidelines.
Many people don't have the privilege to make this decision - some in person learning needs to be available.

Given the current numbers in our region, yes. But it depends on the precautions they’ll be taking. My older daughter said she would be OK wearing a mask all day but my younger daughter said no way—she’d rather be home.

The teachers have to wear a mask all day. The students are encouraged to, but since the classes are small, they are all spaced out, so the kids aren't required to wear them all day, just when they are moving around.
ETA: DD (age 14) said she does wear the mask the entire time. It's only a half day, so it's not too bad.

The way NC is right now, nope. I'm concerned about what's going to happen if someone tests positive - say it's a teacher. Then the teach has to quarantine for 14 days, which would throw off teaching for that class, and any other class that she came in contact with. The back and forth of kids going to school and staying home if exposed is too much.
I get that kids need to have social interactions, and some parents are struggling more than others (working outside the home, etc), but I'm in a place that I can work from home and my son is old enough that he can do school at home. I'd rather him have the stability of knowing where he'll be each day, then to wonder if he'll be home for 14 days.

Yes - we live in a smaller school district and many of the kids are seeing each other now. So let them learn

I would. and my family has been very cautious throughout the whole pandemic. And I will have a newborn in September. But my son had ADHD and is going into first grade. I cannot imagine in him learning how to read and getting his services through remote learning. If that's the case, I will be spending money on tutors. I am fortunate to be able to do that but I cannot imagine him losing more learning time.

Yes. My son will be in first grade and needs at least some in person learning. We continue to limit our interactions with others - although we have been venturing out more to public spaces such as the park and pool early in the morning before others get there. For example, yesterday we got 90 minutes in the pool before anyone else showed up. Well technically there were two elderly ladies swimming laps, but we were nowhere near them. We leave once we can not appropriately socially distance ourselves.
With that said, I am hoping for a hybrid model with masks required for staff and students. While not ideal, I think it offers appropriate social distancing and will limit the transmission of the virus. My son is wearing a mask no matter what the requirements are for students. I will be looking into masks that have the window so teachers can see his mouth moving to help with reading and what not.

Yes I will send my DD if they have proper precautions in place, even if she has to wear a mask. She takes a school bus, but I would prefer to drop her off and pick her up. I work in a school building and I have no idea what my schedule will look like yet starting in September but I will make it work whether she’s in school part time and then homeschooling the other days.

Yes. He needs education and I feel like the lack of school for the past few months he has regressed a little.

Re: Would you send your child to school
If I do send her back, she will have to wear a mask no doubt about it. And if I hear that they are too close together or too many other kids are not wearing a mask, I will pull her probably. Extra cleaning procedures are a must. I want to see documentation of an increased custodial staff for sure.
