Absolutely and I would like it to be a normal school day with just extra cleaning.
Completely agree.

Would you send your child to school
I’m still undecided.
My kids have no problem wearing masks, but I’m appalled the few times I’ve gone to a store/place to see how many people think it’s ok to pull Masks down below your nose. I’m not sure how much trust I have in the school adults to do things properly.
My middle is going to pre-k, and would only be going 11 hours a week anyways, and it’s a TINY school with small classes and lots of outdoor time. I feel relatively okay sending him.
My eldest is going to first grade, and I do feel for her socially-she’s a butterfly who misses her friends. She’s also resilient enough (and I have enough kids) for her to bounce back from this. I’m hoping her school is part time.
I don’t work, so I really can choose what I want.

Re: Would you send your child to school
Yes I would. My kids go to camp Now.
Don’t even want masks but if they have to wear them I’ll send them but the poor teacher will be telling my kids to put it back over thier nose stop touching it etc like I have to do now.
They don’t have to wear masks at camp so it will be infesting to see how they will do for 6 plus hours a day.
I get adults wear them for long periods of time but to expect a child to especially young ones Is honestly ridiculous and not realistic

Yup! All day, every day. But, I doubt it's happening. Our kids are getting cheated, big time.
And if anyone thinks these Mickey Mouse face masks are really helping, it's all a placebo. They are not medical grade masks. People are wearing bandanas, scarves, socks, tissue paper. You trust that the kids are going to be wearing a medical grade mask to school? If they are not then what's the point of even wearing the mask. Wash your hands, sanitize, be clean. Be done with it. In suffolk county right now, more people probably have a cold. There were 60 new cases last I checked. No reason for school to be closed.

Ding, ding, ding False sense of security with these thin cotton masks.. I wear it because I have to but I'm not naive to think it's protecting me

Properly worn masks do work. They contain the spread of droplets, which is how the virus is spread. They're finding that the virus does not live on surfaces as long as they initially thought. That doesn't mean we should all be running around with unwashed hands, but masks are the best defense at present.

Yup. And what about our eyes. Those are mucous membranes also. So that's why in reality I dont think this is more transmittable through the air than any other transmittable illness. But I guess that's a whole other topic haha

But if you are emitting the virus from the droplets in your breath/mouth and you are wearing a mask, there is a higher probability the droplets are protected from the air/getting in your eyes. Nothing is 100% but proper masks worn properly can go a long way.

My kids are going to school- whether it is open or not. They can sit on the steps of the school with their backpacks on all day, but they aren't staying home.

Yes!
You should do a poll to get an informal % of most parent's inclinations. I wish they'd give us a choice and those who want to remote can get the services and those who want in person can send kids. Remote learning hasn't worked well for my family, but if others like it by all means let them do it. It would please just about everyone and lessen the class size as well so win-win!

Covid particles are minuscule and can without much effort go through the small openings in a mask.

Our district did a survey and I was surprised that just under half said they are comfortable sending them back. The rest were split between undecided and not comfortable.

The masks limit the amount of particles that enter the air. Everyone wearing masks reduces the amount of airborne virus in the environment.

I get it. But if nobody else is wearing them, and you are the only one, it's useless. I hear people all the time saying, it was so crowded in xyz outdoor venue and nobody had a mask on, so I wore one because I felt unsafe. Well you just protected everyone else from your germs, but your mask wasn't really protecting you

I never understood the “we must protect others” by wearing a mask mentality. I’m all for helping ppl but a mask is not gonna help me help others regardless how much the government wants me to believe. If they really want all of us to help others, why not put emphasis and work to teach everyone how to take better care of themselves, their immune systems, how to better their health and eating habits. U don’t need a lot of money to be able to stock ur fridge with healthier food. Why not teach our kids in school how to better sustain a healthy lifestyle and it starts with what we put in our mouths. I remember a while ago there was a teacher (I believe in the Bronx?) that started a project with his students about growing their own food using simple, easy-to-find things like plastic bottles, soil, seeds from fruits or vegetable roots. I believe his project started with the intention of keeping kids out of the streets but his project grew much bigger, he didn’t only achieve his initial goal but was also able to teach his students healthy eating habits, and how to be self sufficient with their own food. Now if the government’s intentions were really to protect its people, why not teach them how to improve their lives so the risk of getting sick lowers instead of mandating everyone to wear stupids masks that don’t do crap!

Wow, that's low. My district had 82% saying yes, they would send their kids in September. 16% were undecided and only a sliver said no.

This is laughable. They teach this stuff already. You actually think eating more vegetables is going to make this pandemic go away? I'm all for being healthy but this is no solution to the disaster going on right now.

Is that what u got from my post? Really?? Ok let me spell it out for u. Would u say that ppl that suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, etc. etc. are more prone in getting covid and facing serious complications? What do u think that mostly contributed to those diseases? What kind of restaurants do u think are more predominant in the US? There’s a McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burguer King, Arby’s in almost every corner u turn. Why do u think there’s such obesity problem with our youth in this country? What do u think about the food that schools offer? Why do u think the food industry invest so much in junk food? I’m sure by answering these questions u can conclude there’s a major problem with eating choices in this country. Is a person immune from ever contracting covid by having a healthier diet and overall lifestyle? There’s no guarantee but u can be sure that ur chances of getting covid would be much lower (or have higher chances of overcoming it) if u have a robust immune system. And before anybody labels me as a sanctimonious person (we all know how much lifamilies love throwing labels around), we have eaten the occasional chicken nugget, or fries but I do not make it a habit in my family and they are not our typical everyday meals.

I tend to agree with this. The standard American diet is horrible. And I happen to eat that way. So i have no right to speak. But if you really research it, Americans are some of the most unhealthy people on the planet. And why? The food we eat. The inflammation it causes. The diabetes, heart disease, cancer that comes from it. Everything contains soy. Everything is processed. You can chose to eat otherwise but it's not easy...because what is readily available and cheap? Fast food, processed food. What tastes amazing and is as addictive as a drug? Fast food, sugar, processed food. It takes a lot of work, dedication, and yes, money to eat better. No, eating more vegetables is not going to solve the pandemic. But many of the comorbidities that cause Covid complications ARE very much causes by our diets. So i get what this poster is saying.

I wear it because I have to but I'm not naive to think it's protecting me
How many times do people have to say, it is not about protecting you... it's about protecting others from YOU. its a cooperative endeavor.
Of course it would be wonderful if everyone in this country made healthy choices. However, the pandemic is here now, cases are spiking in some regions today, school starts in NY in two months. Curing type 2 diabetes is not the way we get out of this. We need drastic measures and a mask is certainly not too much to ask.

You are exactly right. The virus wouldn’t be so deadly if we didn’t have so many people with co-morbidities, such as diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure.
