Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

if it wasn't your faith? I know a lot of people send their non-catholic children to catholic school, or non-jewish children to hebrew school. Thoughts?

No I wouldn't if they taught the religion at the school.

Only to either one of DH or my faith.

I would not send DS to a faith I did not believe in.

As a Catholic, I would probably consider sending DS to a school that was Protestant, but not sure I would consider any other faith based programs.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

Depends on how much of the curriculum was faith based and what the faith was. I actually would love for her to be exposed to other religions, but I do want to instill faith in our particular religion (Catholic).

I am looking at a preschool that is protestant. It is very highly rated and has a wonderful program. They do have some church influences but not so much that I think it would contradict the religious beliefs we hope to instill.

Probably not. I might feel different if I were a different religion, as strange as that might sound. We're Jewish and in this country, our kids will be exposed to Christmas and some Christian traditions either way. I do not feel a need to limit that too much but going to the school of another religion tips the scales a bit too much for my liking.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

I would only do it when they are older and have already learned/started learning about their own religion.

I am Catholic and I went to a Jewish day camp for about 10 years growing up (that's where my friends went and I wanted to be with them!). We had Hebrew lessons that I sat in on. I think it's great that I had exposure to a different religion but I might have been confused if I was younger and I hadn't started learning about my own religion first.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

We are Catholic but Joey goes to a Lutheran Nursery school.

He learned the sign of the cross and the prayers. I'm not even sure what the difference is between Catholic and Lutheran.

So far everything he has shown me has been the same as the Catholic faith.

Found my answer here. But it seems to only differentiate with the Sacraments. Joey will not be in this school when he is of the Sacrament age anyway.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

I probably should have said in my OP that I personally was raised catholic, although I really don't practice anymore. I don't attend church. Neither of my children have been raised in a church, neither have been baptized. So I guess *they* don't really have a faith. We do celebrate traditional christian holidays and believe in god, we just aren't very religious at all.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

I would rather Josh go to a catholic pre-school, but there aren't many around here.

The actual center and comfort level will outweigh whatever religion I look into.

I would not pass up a great program because its not catholic.

Leo prefers to keep church out of it.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

I think any Christian early-childhood program would be suitable for any Christian child. I have seen Methodist, Catholic and Lutheran programs, and they all teach a love of God and unashamedly expose to them to Christianity.

My only concern with sending kids so little to different faith-based programs would be identity confusion. However, I think that when they are a little bit older, the exposure is a really wonderful thing for them. (As a catholic who attended a Jewish program during high school, I can attest that it was a great experience and only deepened my appreciation and respect of other religions. Plus, I love that I can speak Hebrew!)

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

I've never really given it much thought.

I am Jewish, DH is Catholic. I suppose I would happily send Ryan to either. Anything other than that, the curriculum would really have to be outstanding to the other options.

This is us but my DH is an atheist and we agreed not to raise our children with God or religion so this is why our children will not go to any faith based schooling.
Obviously when they are old enough they can choose religion if they want but it is not for us.

We are Catholic. I would send DS to a school that was based on any denomination of Christianity, but probably not Jewish. That being said, I would like to DS to learn about all religions, not just ours, so he will be going to a non faith based program.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

I looked into nursery programs both at a Temple and at a Lutheran Church (we're Catholic). The schools were secular, even though held at religious locations. I have no problem with that.

I don't think I would send my children to be taught another religion (not that we're so religious anyway...)

I would send DS to a Christian school, but probably not another religion.

I am Lutheran and went to Catholic school my whole life. I am raising DS Lutheran (i think) but sending him to Catholic school. I probably wouldn't send him to a Jewish (for example) one.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....

If they taught any specific religion then no. We are Atheists and want to educate DD as to what religions and non religious beliefs are out there but not indoctrinate her with anything specific so she can make her own choices like we did.

There is a Lutheran preschool down the street that gets great reviews so for preschool we may go there but it will depend on what amount of religion they teach and how they would respect our beliefs.

Yes, if I thought it would be the best school for my child.
