Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
Yes. Andrew goes to a Lutheran School and I am Lutheran and DH isn't.
Andrew will also be going to Catholic School after Preschool and I am not Catholic.

No, if I were to send DD to a religious based school then it would definitely be our religion.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
i was raised nothing, my mother is jewish my father catholic...i felt something "missing" my ENTIRE life...when i had my son, i sent him to temple preschool (honestly just because it was a great school, and i liked the program, but being my mother is jewish i wanted him to learn SOMETHING from his background) theres a lolng story behind the rest of it, and it has nothing to do with the school, but we officially both converted to catholicism when my son was 7, so at this point, since he is VERY close to his religion i wouldnt send him to a school that may teach something i dont believe in... until then, i think its wonderful to expose your kids to religion IN GENERAL..and God for that matter..and i know they did such beautiful rituals and traditions with my son that he will remember forever... anyway, being from a jewish mother..although i am catholic now, i thank God for my beautiful jewish background..it was the start of my own faith...

I would, but DH would be very reluctant. He is not religious at all & probably wouldn't even want the kids to go to a school that taught my religion.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
I currently send DD to a 2 year old program at the church we are members of (Catholic). Of course, because they are 2- there really isn't much faith-based education. moving forward, I'm not so sure. My step sister is on the board of the preschool in babylon at a Methodist church- I know there isn't MUCH of a difference... and the program is supposed to be excellent- but I'm not entirely sure if I am OK with her going or not... mostly b/c if we stay where we are and then she will be going to the catholic school and I'd want her to stay with the kids in "her class".

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
Alex's daycare and preschool is located in a conservative synogague and touts itself as a religious school, and there are SOOO many non-jews there, mainly because it is one of the best schools in the area.
I wouldn't think it's an issue when they are younger because they aren't really absorbing any of the traditions or religious ideologies, but yes, now that she's 3 I would think twice if she were a different faith. She's coming home singing the jewish prayers, wearing a kippa, and at school they celebrate shabbat every Friday and all the holidays. It's definitely making an impact on her at this age...

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
Depends a little on the faith. If they are going to be teaching my child fear - then I would rather not send him. If they are going to teach him the common tenets of most religions - compassion, honesty, community service, etc.. - than I would have no problem.
I want my children to have exposure to a variety of religions just as I did.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
We are Catholic and live in NYC. The private preschools are way too expensive but the Catholic schools only charge 600 per month for a 5 day full time program. It is a great bargain for NYC. There are a lot of non-Christian kids in my friends daughter's class.
I would feel comfortable sending them to any Christian school. I am not sure about a Jewish or Muslim school.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
probably not. even though we're catholic, i wouldn't want him going to a faith based school of any kind, catholic included.
to me, school and religion should be separate things.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
I think it would depend on how much time is spent teaching that faith. Growing up I found myself wishing that I knew what other religiions were like and I know I would like to expose DD to many beliefs. BUT I also do not want her exposed to too much religion in school - kwim? I attended Sunday School growing up and would prefer her religion to be more based on weekend or after school programs.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
Yes, DH is United Methodist, I'm Episcopal, and the kids are being raised as United Methodist. Currently, Nate goes to a day care that is run by a Baptist Church. I wouldn't say they are totally faith-based bc they have never taught religion. They are also going through the process of being an official Headstart program (a City of Chicago funded pre-school), so I don't think they can really teach religion.
If we do continue to live in the city of Chicago, the boys will not be going to public school. We plan on finding a catholic or private school for them to go to.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
I dunno- I guess it would depend..
I mean I am a christian but attended Lutheran School.
I would def send DS to Catholic school, when he got older.
But those are all denominations of the christian faith. We all worship the same God and believe the same foundation. I have no issues with my child learning of the other denominations, since the "main" message is still the same.
For instance- we go to a non-denominational church- which means- no denonmination or any denonmination can attend- KWIM?
But I probably wouldnt send him to a temple, or to a scientology "church"- sine the message is not the same.

Yes absolutely.
I would. I am Greek Orthodox and Athan is growing up that way too but we are already looking at a Catholic school for him since there are no Grekk-American schools here in Virginia (boy do I miss Queens). Since the religions are very similar, I have no problem with it at all.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
For nursery school I would. I don't see a problem with it. They are so little, and they function just like a typical preschool..
And I figure even if they do explain "god" at this age, it certainly isn't the worst thing for a child to be exposed to! Some of those programs are wonderful.
I would however prob stick with a christian based program, preferably catholic b/c we are both catholic. Just makes sense.

Depends on how much of the curriculum was faith based and what the faith was. I actually would love for her to be exposed to other religions...
I agree here. And the curriculum would have to be stellar for me to go with a secular rather than non-religious private.
But nothing is out of the question. A good education is to be found in many places.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
while there are many differences, the sacraments are probably the biggest difference. Oh, and the fact that we Lutherans don't believe in having a Pope. Or one-on-one confessions, but I guess that falls under the sacrament category. We also don't worships Saints or pray to anyone other than God.
There are many differences in beliefs that are not so apparant.
The bottom line is they are both based on Christianity, so many of the core beliefs are the same.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
Yes, I am hopefully sending my son to a Church of England school. They teach all religions and the basis of their religiious teachings are morals and values, so its not too much religion in a godly sense. The school has a really good mix of ethnicities and religions and there are a lot of Muslim students there, as well as CofE and a handful of Jewish kids.

Re: Would You Send Your DC To A Faith Based Nursery School....
Most nursery schools do not teach religion. That usually happens from kindergarten on. Kiera goes to a school that is located in a Methodist church and we do are not Methodist. I was ok with it because they do not teach any kind of religion. However if they did then I would not send my children to a school of different faith.
