Would you take a 7 wk old to a college graduation? DS hasn't had his 2 month vaccinations yet.

DH's cousin is graduating college in boston. Originally I was planning to go with DH and DS but now I'm having second thoughts. I am not close to his cousin at all but DH is very close to him.

Would you take a newborn to a college graduation?

I feel it would be awful if DS started to cry during the ceremony. The whole swine flu scare just adds to why it may be a bad idea to go to the graduation.

I probably wouldn't go. My pediatrician said no public places until after his 8 week shots.

To be honest with or without shots I wouldn't. Unless it was my DH's graduation that couldn't be avoided I would keep a baby that young out of that type of environment for a little longer. There are SO many diseases that go around college campuses...JMHO!

I wouldn't but my reasoning is that we didn't go out into public places until she was 8 weeks because if she got sick the course of treatment is an ER visit, blood work, spinal tap and possibly hospital admittance.

Giving the 2 month vaccinations DOES NOT prevent the child from getting sick. It takes weeks for immunity to start building up in the system as well as the subsequent boosters they get up to 2 years of age.....

Please don't get a false sense of security about these first series of vaccinations.

The best thing you can do to prevent your child from getting sick is FIRST to Breastfeed....your child gets TONS of antibodies through breast milk....wash you hands frequently and try not to be in a situation where there are a lot of people and some could potentially be sick

Swine flu or not - I wouldn't. Just b/c as a previous poster said if DC gets sick at that age it is a serious issue. If DC were just a little older I would - when DS was just over 3 mos we took him to my sister's college graduation.

I'm sure they will understand why you are missing it

I would say yes normally, but with the dregs of swine flu hanging about, I would say no this time.

I would....I brought DS to my brothers HS graduation that was at Hofstra when he was 8 weeks old. I had him in the Baby Bjorn. He was fine.

That's a tough one. With the swine flu going around....

I brought my DD to my sister's graduation at Albany when she was a little over 2 months and she was fine. The whole graduation was outside, so I kept her in her stroller and she loved it.
