Would you take this opportunity?
I am a stay at home mommy. I was thinking about going back to work since we could really use the extra money but with daycare cost so high Im finding everywhere I could work well my whole check would be going to dd tuition, So we choice for me to stay home a bit longer, Well I was asked if in September I would be interested in watching someone’s twins sons. When I am to start my dd would be 23 months and the boys would be a year & a half. It would be at their house but there is a spare room for DD to take naps. It would be 8 hours a day and I make get $100 a day. I’m so on the fence on what to do. They money would help DH & I sooo much but at the same time I look at this and it’s not like a regular job where I could call in sick if my child or I was under the weather it’s a BIG commitment. So my question is, if you were staying home already and this opportunity was brought to you do you think you would jump on it?? Oh and both the parents are teachers so I would have off the days that there is no school/holidays/snowdays.

I would jump on it personally. Best of both worlds - you get to be with DD and make money. And then DD has playmates too.

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
me personally, I would say no.
Like you said it is a BIG committment. What if one of your dc are sick, wilkl they make you find a sitter for them so as not to infect their kids? You can not call out sick.
Are you able to leave the home with the kids, as in drive around with them? I would NOT be able to be couped up in a house for 8 hours with that many kids. I take my dc out constantly.
When will you have time to get your own things done? Shopping, errands....etc.
maybe Im a bad person, but this is so not ideal for me!

We have a nanny, and if she or one of her kids is sick, she calls out. It sucks, but she does. Just like anyone else who works.
I go to work and need to get my own things done when all the other people who work get their things done - at night and on the weekends.
If you don't need the money, then good for you and don't take on a job. If you need the money, you are not going to find a much better situation than this IMO.

I have 2 kids and really wish I could watch another child. We could use the money, but I fear it will be too much work watching 3 kids.

Im not sure about going out but honestly i dnt think i want to attempt to go out with 3 kids under 2 lol. They have a huge backyard the kids can run around n play in so that helps. Also I would be home by 3pm so i could still get in some food shopping doctor appt all those things. We talked about what would happen if my kid or me were to get ill and i couldnt come and she said that they have a back up they could call if that was to happen for a day or two. I think i am leaning towards taking it im just a tiny bit nervous about it. Plus i feel bad that dd wont have mommy & me or music classes any more but she will have 2 friends with her every day sooo yeah.. Ughh what to do what to do.. lol

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
If you guys really need the $$ i would def take it. The kids can play with each other. You have the yard. Out by 3.
Sure she will miss the mommy n me but there are always weekends for that.
I am in your situation right now. I need to work but with 2 kids, one would be needing before and after care and my other in daycare, all my earning would go to that.
So i opt to babysit. I watch my niece in my home.

Not sure they just said they wanted to know if i would be willing to come to there house and watch the boys and that my daughter is welcome too. I guess they figure its easier since they have two kids to get ready & out in the morning n i only have 1, lol Plus they are younger and all there stuff cribs and all will be at arms reach dd will sleep in the toddler bed in there other sons room for her naps. Honeslty though i think i may like it better at there place, My house is on the smaller side they have a nice large house with a HUGE playroom & backyard. Plus i feel like it wont be so bad since im gettin up n out it will feel nice to come home at the end of the day instead of being in the same place All day & Night,, Does that make any sense lol

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
$100 a day..thats $500 a week most likely off the books? I would take it. You will still be with your DD and she will get socialization somewhat from being with the two little ones.
maybe you can do a trial week with them and see how it goes before you make a decision?

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
I am a SAHM and I babysit for a 3.5 year old monday-friday.
I have to tell you that the situation I am in --- I feel like it is a blessing in so many ways. It is very flexible and gives me time for my family....I am able to be my daughter's girl scout leader, go up to the school to read stories, and I also have a lot of fun with the girl I babysit for --- we go on playdates, go to the park/playground, take classes at the library...
There are two aspects of it that you might want to question --- will you be able to drive with the boys or will you be confined to their house?
And will there ever be an opportunity to watch them at your house?
If it was at your house I'd be all over it --- you could still get things done all day long. At their house, well that would make me really consider it.

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
Twin boys sound like a lot of work. I personally wouldn't do it but I can barely handle my own 2 children.
Childcare is SUCH hard work.

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
Just like with everything else there are pros and cons.
I have this situation. I was a SAHM with just DS1 and my friend needed some help for a couple of weeks. I said sure why not. Did this on and off for 13 months until DS 2 was born. Prior to being about 7months preggo with DS2 it wasnt bad. DS1 had a playmate, they both napped, I watch her at my house, I can drive her wherever I want etc. The parents loved it because when I dont watch her she is watched by grandparents who dont socialize her with other kids, so she really "grew" while being with me because she went to playdate,s hte library, parks, music class etc.
I didnt start watching her again until DS2 was 9 months. And in the last 3 months, I can say I dont like it as much. With 3 kids its much harder. Getting them in and out of hte car is a pain, I can't do certain things that I liked to do during the week (get hair done, my drs appts, go to the gym etc) because I can't ask my ILS to watch someone elses kid. Its nice having the money and she is 1 year younger than DS so its nice for him to have a playmate, but honestly I am counting donw the days until I am done. Its not the same as watching your own kids IMO.
GL with your decision!

Is part time an option for them? My twins are with my parents part time and a sitter part time and they do just fine.

This. I wouldn't hesitate. I watched two little boys in my home along with my DD and it was great while I did it. Extra cash, off the books, and I was still with my DD all day. I did it for a year and a half.

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
If you can handle three kids I think it sounds like a great idea! I'm not sure that I could be with 3 little ones all day but I work full time outside the home so it's not something I am used to (sometimes I'd really love to try though because I miss my little guy so much sometimes.
Maybe see if you can do a trial run for a few weeks and see how you feel.

Re: Would you take this opportunity?
I would consider it, but I don't think $100 a day is enough to take care of twins. I think a minimum of $15 per hour (which is what most babysitters in my neighborhood get paid for 1 child), which would be 120 a day

Good points! I guess they will have all the stuff there and ready to go! If you are willing too then I say go for it. Do it for a year and if you don't like it then you could stop or find something else. It sounds like a great opportunity.

Occasional babysitters may get that much, by it's usually less when it a set schedule like this. I think $100 a day is fair. She would potentially be making $26,000 a year in cash, which is probably the equivalent of a $36,000 salary. Pretty decent for still being a full time mom to your own child.
