Would you take your newborn to your older DCs playgroup?
DS has been in a weekly playgroup for over a year---so all moms/kids I know. I was planning on waiting until DS #2 had his first shots to start going again (not to mention I am not ready to go it on my own getting both kids out of the house)---but my one friend whose newborn is 2 weeks older than DS #2 has already started back. Am I being overprotective? DS is 2.5 weeks old

You're not being overprotective, you're doing what you're comfortable with.
That said, DS #2 was at DS #1's classes from about 4 weeks on.

I'd probably wait the 8 weeks b/c I'm neurotic. Unless there's somebody who could watch the baby some of those days for just the hour or two you'd be gone, that way your older child still would get to go?

Yes, I will be taking my newborn to all playgroups, playdates etc as soon as I feel up to doing it.

Yesterday was the first playdate I took Colin on at almost 10 wks and he stayed in his carrier.
Ryan has a weekly tumble class too but Colin goes to my ILs for that.
It's difficult in the winter time - you can't be too careful.
Do what you feel comfortable with

you need to do what you feel comfortable with. i took my DD out whenever i had the chance (which isnt a lot bc DS has in home therapy almost all day)

I agree with the PPs - it depends on your comfort level. I personally would start right away (maybe 2 weeks old or so), and would have my NB in the carrier covered with a blanket or in a sling/baby bjorn.

I didn't take Tyler around kids for 8 weeks. If we had a playdate I went with Jack alone - or if I didn't have someone to watch Tyler we wouldn't go.

Re: Would you take your newborn to your older DCs playgroup?
I would not. My ped told me it really has nothing to do with that first round of shots-- what you need to worry about is colds/flu/RSV etc, which those shots do not prevent. A newborn who catches one of these things and gets a fever generally has to go to the hospital for a spinal tap. Was not worth it for me. My older DS was in a mommy and me class, and for the first couple months of DD's life, if my parents could watch her, then I took DS. Otherwise, we skipped it.
