wrong career..
I just think that I got into the wrong career...I wish I could go back and do something else..
My passion is music...so anything with music or culinary school.
Anyone else feel this way?

Re: wrong career..
At 27 I decided I was not happy in the corporate world so I went back to school for my second masters, this time in elem ed. I've always wanted to teach and just never did it for my bachelors.

Good for you! I just feel like it's too late for me...I am just working to work and not because I am passionate about my work...which is sad

Yes, I am in the wrong career, but I'm not going back to school - so work is to pay the bills.
I really wanted to be a math teacher, I should've done it.

Re: wrong career..
EVERYDAY. I was an event coordinator in a few different industries for a few years and I just got burned out. I decided to go back to school for my masters in EDU. I am 2 classes and student teaching short from Graduating and I am now dealing w/the fact that I dont want to teach. Its partly b/c its so freakin hard to find a teaching job on the Island. I dont know what else I want to do w/myself and that is pretty difficult to deal with. I put myself & my husband in dept so I could change careers and now I think it might be a waste. I'm sorry I wish I could offer some advice or bright side. Maybe you could take some independent cooking or music courses to be sure this is what you want?

Oh No!!! Please, if your unhappy you NEVER need to live w/it. You can always do something to make yourself happier. I just suggest that you really investigate what it is you want b/f shelling out MAJOR $$$$$$ I am a firm believer that we make our own happiness and there isnt anything in the world you can accomplish as long as your willing to work for it. Just keep thinking about it, research ideas, talk to ppl in the trades you are interested in. I promise you, you are NEVER "stuck" in any situation in life!!! Death is the only thing given to us that is final.

Re: wrong career..
My passion in music too. I'm a singer, but as most people know it's not a very stable industry... I would LOVE to get a singing job with an entertainment company doing weddings/bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate parties, etc...
AS a matter of fact, thanks for this post OP, you just made me realize I need to contact a few people about this!
What's your passion in the music field?

I think this is great advice. I believe that even though you might like to do something, it may not be a suitable career. It depends on if you're good at it, could do it every day and accept that once it becomes a job, it becomes a responsibility and a lot of the fun is lost.
I feel this way about photography. I could give it a try as a career but I'm afraid I would lose the love I have for it once it's a job. So I consider it a hobby instead, and feel better that my income does not depend on it.
Instead, I would look back at my jobs and consider what parts I liked out of each of them. Take those things and skills and think about whether you could find something you could do that exploits that. For instance, I liked to help people, use the computer, and I'm extremely organized.
So I went back to school and now I'm an Information Technology Manager. I provide support for people's problems, troubleshoot, come up with new ideas, and implement them. It's been 10 years and although there's highs and lows, all in all I'm glad I made the change.

Re: wrong career..
Every day here too...it is very upsetting to me. In fact, I started out majoring in the field I wanted (OT) and then switched to business Now I want to go back for OT. Go figure! It's one of my biggest regrets. Now I am a FT working mom so I have no idea what to do.

It's never too late!
I worked in corporate for 15 years until I decided to go back to school for a complete career change. Never even using any of my curricula.
I went from Finance to being a massage therapist. It could not be any more opposite. Desk job to manual job.
I was working FT while going to school PT.
I don't regret a bit. I went back to school when I was 34.
You have plenty of years ahead of you. If you were 5 years from retirement, I would not necessarily suggest it but you are still young. Don't settle!!!!!

Re: wrong career..
I sometimes wonder about this but I think there are multiple things I would be happy doing.
After what I have gone through (infertility and pregnancy loss), I'd kind of like to be a counselor who speaks to people who deal with similar issues.

Re: wrong career..
The best argument I've ever heard for "it's never too late" was in college when my friend's mom was debating going to law school.
Her daughter told her that it's never too late.
Her mom rebutted with "But when I finish law school in three years, I'll be 55!"
Her daughter asked her "So how old will you be in three years when you don't finish law school?"
and yes, she opened her own (successful) practice after she passed the bar.

Re: wrong career..
i changed my career as well.. sometimes its worth it for your own happiness. i was making more $ before but worked long hours and it was very stressful. in my new job i don't make a lot but i am less stressed and work a normal 8 hour day. plus if i when i want to have kids i see it as a possibility where in my prior career i could never imagine being able to have children being away for so long. i have to say though it was easy for me to change at the time as i did not have my house yet but it would be harder for me to do so today with mortgages and other things i now have to pay for. good luck!

Re: wrong career..
I went to school for journalism and had such a romantacized idea of what it would be like. I learned quickly working for a newspaper that I was way off base. After 4 years of long hours and terrible pay, I left and started teaching dance with my mom. Two years later I took over and she retired. I now work about 15 hours a week, 9 months out of the year, and make more then double what I was making at the paper.
