WWYD - car trip related
SO we are leaving tomorrow morning for our car ride to NY
We were thinking of leaving at 5-6am but then I am not sure where we will be for rush hour.
Then I was thinking to leave at like 3 am (this way, I could HOPEFULLY just pick miki up from her crib and place her in the car without waking her up)....this would mean, we would get to NY at like 3pm and miki would have a few hours to unwind before bedtime.
What do you think is a better idea?

Have you mapped out your trip yet? You can try and make it out on google map and see where you'll be at what time.

Re: WWYD - car trip related
I'd avoid the rush hour at all costs!!!
Richmond, DC, NJ, & NY can all be murder.
We usually drove on weekends. The one time we left during the week, we left at like 11pm and missed most of it, just check for construction

Re: WWYD - car trip related
The earlier time seems like a better plan. When DD#1 was a year, we drove from NY to NC and left around 5am. It was a perfect time for us (obviously going in the opposite direction from you). We made it from Queens to Newark airport in 20 minutes!! Kate fell right back asleep (oh, and we put her to bed in her clothes so we could make the transition to the car as smooth as possible) and woke up for breakfast, she slept again and woke up for lunch and was awake most of the rest of the way, but only started getting antsy at the very end--so I guess that's some travel advice for your way home.
The way home was a different story. We left NC around 6am--DISASTER!

Re: WWYD - car trip related
I never take 95...always 81. Halfway point is somewhere nice in like West virgina. Always feel safe at rest areas and gas stations. I took 95 home once on accident, Baltimore took he forever to get through because of an accident. Since I go solo, I am always on the road by 4 am...that way I fill up at the gas station the same time he wakes and wants to stretch. Its light out by then.

We need to get other routes, cause we still take 95

Steph 81 goes all the way to Syracuse too so you should look into that. I would do the 3AM as long as you think you can make it without being tired

We need to get other routes, cause we still take 95 with gas money, I can't afford 95 anymore with those tolls

VERY TRUE! We don't plan to drive up anytime soon, but before the next time, I must find a new route!

Re: WWYD - car trip related
When I lived in Vermont, I would have to travel 5 hours if I drove to LI - so I would leave at about 8pm and arrive at 1AM - it really would be awesome not dealing with much traffic - if you can stay awake and you guys are up to it, I say do it at 3AM!
