WWYD - day care related???
Sorry so long but I need advice!!
DD goes to day care every day at a women's house from 6:45 until 4:45. She is picked up at the sitters and attends preschool 3 days a week for 3 hours a day and then back to the sitter. She dresses her, feeds her and does tones of great activities and projects all day. DH and I are both teachers and I have been home on since Oct. on maternity but we have been sending DD to the sitter to keep her schedule consistant while I am home with the baby.
Well, DD is sick. She threw up this weekend and has had a fever on and off since Sunday. I brought her to the ped. yesterday and she has an ear infection. I am pretty sure I am going to keep her home all week to avoid getting the other kids at daycare and school sick. Plus, I want her to be healthy for Christmas.
My question is: should I pay for a week of daycare even though she is not there? She doesn't charge us for the days she misses but I feel that her being out for a week really affects her sitter's livelyhood, esp. around the holidays. We were planning on giving her a week's pay for Christmas, but I am debating paying her for this week too. I know my DH is going to FLIP because he will feel since she didn't go, we shouldn't pay. I just feel that once and a while missing a day is one thing, but missing a week is another. And I feel we were lucky this happened when I was home, so we didn't have to take off from work.
WWYD??? TIA!

Re: WWYD - day care related???
That's a tough one. DS goes to a licensed daycare and in the contract we are allowed to have one week off a year however we use it that we don't pay. Either sick or for vacation
Have you ever discussed it with her b4 what to do about vacations or sick days?
DS had an ear infection, but once he was on meds for a few days I sent him back to daycare. He's no longer contagious and he's on meds to help.
What about sending her back the end of the week when she feels better?

I thought about sending her at the end of the week, but I really don't want to push it and have her be sick for Christmas and the following week because we have tons of plans. Plus, she woke up again with 101 fever today, so she still isn't fever free. Poor baby.
And we don't pay for any sick days or when we are off for vacations. Just the days she goes, which is great - but I feel like this situation is different.

Re: WWYD - day care related???
We pay if she's there or not. Its an annualized tuition with monthly installments. So if we take a vacation or if she's out sick, we still pay the same amount regardless.
So yes, I'd pay.

if it's not something she's expecting you could always do half pay or just a little something so she's not missing out completely. I think it's very thoughtful of you to consider her livelihood during the holiday season BTW. Kudos to you.

When we miss a full week of daycare, we pay half to "hold their spots". I think half would be nice since its around the holidays if you can afford it.

Re: WWYD - day care related???
if you are not obligated to pay, and you can afford to pay some extra, I would give a very generous xmas gift--whatever i could afford up to a week's fee--and say you appreciate everything, and you are sorry about any burden with your DC being out the week before christmas. this way, you are giving some money to cover the burden of it, showing your gratitude, and not setting a precedent for down the road when your DC might be out a week and you can't afford to pay for that week and take off of work or a hire a separate sitter.

I think that is very nice of you and if you can do it you should. I would think you are right in thinking that losing the weeks pay (especially at the holidays) would effect her livelihood.
