Need Advise..day care related. Kinda long

So DS has been going to an in-home licensed provider since he was 4 months old (he'll be 11 mo this week). Within the last month or so we've been having some problems (very long story) with our provider and DS in her home. She has reported that DS is not making any progress in her verbal or gross motor skills despite us seeing a difference in him at home. She said he cries most of the day and needs to be either held or within direct view of the "teacher" in the room at all times (they are always watching the children but may go to the other side of the room for something quickly). He has been teething pretty badly over the last week and she called me twice last week to come pick him up. I pulled him out for the remainder of the week b/c I wasn't able to leave work so I made arrangments for my cousin to watch him. My cousin said he was a dream all day long and was happy as could be.

So, over the weekend I interviewed a new provider. She was very nice. But, I'm feeling realy uneasy about leaving him with a new person and distrupting his schedule. Also, her home wasn't "bad" per say, but it is definately not the same environment he is in now (our current provider has a "classroom" type setting in her home similar to a miniature tutor time daycare). She is more of a babysitter than anything else. She is also licensed with the state. She only has 2 other children with her (which I like) while my current provider has 8. I'm wondering if maybe DS dosen't like being with SO many children in such a small space.

So, I'm at a loss. I'm not 100% sure about the new woman just b/c she is a stranger and the environment is so different. No bad...just different. It seems like DS is just not happy at the current place. What would you do?

I think you need to go with your gut. I would keep looking for a new place until you find one you love. Don't settle. I would also take what your care provider is saying about your child seriously. They often see many children and may have a valid concern that you should look into to. But when your gut tells you something is "not right" it is never wrong.
Where are you located? Maybe some girls here can give you some places to look at.

From one daycare mom to another- you would be shocked at how well adjusted your child can be when you change providers. It is harder on you then them in many cases.

I think their might be a problem at current day care that if it doesn't get corrected you should move dc.

Maybe you need to interview more facilities before making your decision.

FYI - I bought DS flash cards from borders - MyFirst Words for DS. 16 cards for $12 but really cute pics, sturdy cards that helped him with his verbal development. And at 14 mos we moved DS to a center type day care from home care babysitter.

The home care babysitter was more of a free for all - no real learning. The center day care is very structured with different type of activites and themed lessons for the week and I really think that helped also.
