WWYD - Dental work
WWYD - I am in the middle of getting a root canal done (it was an emergency) and I was a wreck during the first party because it was during the 2WW and I had x-rays, novicaine, am on anti-biotics, you name it - everything I would want to avoid so early on if there were anything going on inside me. I did speak with my OB nurse and she said all was fine (novicaine without epinephrine, for example), but I got my period anyway.
Now I have to go back this week for the second part of the root canal, which will be right after my period. I'll need to get a cap put on and I'm not sure how soon this can happen after the root canal is done.
Should DH and I put TTC on hold this month, until the cap is done? Should we just keep trying?
It seems like a silly question to ask my doctor so I thought I would start with you ladies. TIA!!

I'm honestly not sure, but in a similar boat. I need to get a wisdom tooth extracted!!! If I don't get a BFP this month my plan it to have it done as early in my cycle as possible.
I would def ask your doctor though. I don't think it is a silly question at all :)

Honestly, don't put it off, I just wouldn't stress it. Just get the work done that you need, and "wing" it this month, without the OPK's... you've got enough going on with the oral issues, which are really important to get taken care of - you don't want any extra pain when you're preggo.

I wouldn't put it off. There is no pain like tooth pain. If you had the root already removed, I don't think there is any need for novocaine. Check with your dentist.

Re: WWYD - Dental work
Don't put it off. Live your life as you normally would while TTC. hopefully You'll get PG soon and it won't matter but for others (like me) After 3 years of this, I would have never gotten anything I needed done!
BTW if the root canal part is done, they may still give you a needle for the fitting of the post & crown. Just ask for no epinephrine if you truly are concerned (I get that now anyway bc it gives me heart palpitations)

I had a root canal right after I found out I was pregnant, I also needed to be on antibiotics....my ob said it wasn't a problem that it was a necessity

I have not and will not put anything on hold until I actually see a BFP. So I wouldn't think twice about it.

Re: WWYD - Dental work
IMO - do what you would normally do, unless a dr has told you otherwise. when you do get pregnant, you dont share blood with the baby for several weeks (6 or 8 i believe).
good luck!

Same here! My OB said the infection getting worse/spreading was more risky so he gave the ok. You should be fine!

Do not put your life on hold while TTC. Novocaine is safe during pregnancy as are some antibiotics. Take care of your dental work. Good Luck.

Re: WWYD - Dental work
Thanks everyone! I wasn't going to put the dental work on hold, but rather the TTC on hold! I guess the answer is keep trying and get the dental work as needed?

If it is any consolation, the dental assistant at the endodontist where I am having the root canal done said they see pregnant women all the time because a lot of women have dental problems. Something to look forward to!

Everyone says this and it is so true!! Why does tooth pain hurt so much? It was excruciating, luckily I'm feeling much better now.

I wouldn't put it off. DH is a dentist and did a root canal on me while we were TTC before going to IVF. He also had to do dental work on me while we were in the middle of IVF.

Re: WWYD - Dental work
Don't wait!! My experience was awful my first pregnancy. DS took all my calcium and my teeth that needed work to be finished were falling out, needed two root canals. And mind you before that my teeth were in pretty good shape, just some cavities.
I am currently finishing up the work that started then, 3 years later... my advice do it first then get pregnant!!
