WWYD - drive or fly to Maine with a toddler?

We will be traveling with our son who will be 15-16m old. DH thinks we should fly to Maine from NY. I think we should just drive. I think it would be a pain to check in the car seat, stroller, and everything else a toddler would need. I thought it may be nice to stop by Boston, stay at a resort in Southern Maine, and then head up to Bar Harbor.

What would you do - drive or fly?

Money isn't a factor in our decision. It's more about what is best for DS and overall convenience.

I would drive. DOesnt seem worth the flight really.

We did a 7 hour trip when DS was 7 months and again around 15 months and it was fine. I think if you stopped overnight to break it up that should work.

I would drive. You do not know DIFFICULT until you have tried changing a toddlers diaper in an airplane bathroom. Chat Icon

For such a short flight I think you should drive.

By the time you factor in driving to the airport, getting there early to wait for your flight, the actual flight etc. That is more than half of your drive.

I can tell you from experience since my family lives in Maine, that flying comes out to the same amount of "travel time" as if you drove. The only time I do fly is if I am flying with DS alone this way I don't have to do the 7 hour drive alone with DS

Definitely drive! It's so much more convenient with a toddler (and in general!). Flying is such a PITA.

Flying is more a hassle then convenient when it comes to Maine or a closer place IMO.

I would drive. It is a very easy drive.
