WWYD - NPR - questions regarding travel
So, DH was supposed to go to a wedding in Mexico back when the swine flu outbreak happened. He was able to cancel his $500 airline ticket with Continental - and got a credit.
We have to use this credit by February 19th. Just book a flight for within the next year. Problem is, Continental's main hub is Newark which is a hike from where we live. The only non-stop flights out of LGA are to Cleveland and Houston, which no offense, I don't want to travel to either of those places.
I say that we eat the ticket. My parents will be paying for our trip this year so I say it's a wash. DH thinks it's a waste and can't get over not using the ticket. He thinks we should go on a vacation. I guess we could do non-stop from LGA to somewhere - problem is - where would we go for only a weekend.
Any thoughts on what you would do? We would be leaving the kids and honestly, I don't even know that I'll be ready to do this by the time we travel. UGH - this stupid wedding was nothing but problems from the beginning.

If it was me, I would eat the ticket. You'll end up spending so much more on a vacation, even if it's just for a weekend, that it might not be worth it. And not to mention that you would have to pay ME to fly out of Newark.
We had to eat the cost of a ticket a few years ago when I got a new job, it was about $300, and it sucked, but it was worth it in the end.

Florida!
its only a 2 1/2 hr flight....hit Ft Lauderdale or Miami.
For two days of some heat and sun! Ahhhhhhhhh and without kiddies!
I bet the stop to LGA would only be for an hr tops so its not terrible.

I would go out of Newark. If you get a morning flight, it wouldn't be too bad and I actually like Newark (we used to fly out of it a lot when we lived on SI) and go someplace for a nice childfree weekend!

I would go somewhere. We flew out of Philly last week when we went to London (to avoid a connection bc we flew USAir) and it wasn't bad at all. Newark would be a breeze. I would try to time your flights around rush hour though.

I did a search to Miami and it's only coming up from Newark - not sure why they don't have connecting out of LGA.
I did check Vegas though - it would end up costing us about another 300 alone for just flight - not including the hotel - and spending money. We'd be down about 2K for a three day trip

From your house to Newark will be an hour with no traffic and I think it is a really nice airport. I wouldn't let leaving out of Newark stop you from going on a vacation.

oooh ok - you guys are kind of making me feel better. I don't know that I can leave the little men yet though. I am such a freak I know. Jack will be almost three at the time - but he's still my little baby :(

From my house to Newark is 45 minutes. It isn't far at all.
My brother picked my mom up when we went away. She lives 2 blocks away from 135 off of Hempstead and it took them a hour each way.

Re: WWYD - NPR - questions regarding travel
Is it transferrable? I would try selling it first before eating a $500 ticket. Thats a lot of money to me.
I would go away though. Newark"s not far at all ( get a car service? ) ...Go to Florida or the Outer Banks or something? Something not too far away...
