WWYD? Dreamfeeding vs middle of night feeding
As some of you know, Jordan (6 months next week) does not eat well during the day usually due to his reflux. He still does not STTN and wakes to eat one time. Ped said to feed him. I've been debating whether or not I should just give him a dreamfeed before I go to sleep or not. The positive would be that hopefully that would hold him through the night and he would not wake up in the middle of the night, but I guess I've been holding off on doing it because I say to myself, "Maybe tonight is the night he'll sleep through the night without a feeding," and I guess I don't want him to get used to a dreamfeed then.
FWIW, he STTN for a week and a half back in April and for three random nights since we've been up here in NY (the past month.)
WWYD - dreamfeed or just wake up in middle of night with him?
Thanks!

You could try, it can't hurt, but dream feeding never worked with either of my kids, they either didn't take the bottle or it woke them up too much. Some kids really take to it though!

Thanks, LB - like I said, I'm just concerned that it will just encourage him to want a late bottle even when he's ready to STTN...I think that's what stops me every night!

Do you burp him? I hate to say it - I don't burp him in the middle of the night feeding and goes right back to sleep

That's my thinking too. DS didn't STTN (7 to 7) until he was 6 months old but really, getting up with him at night (or 4am, whatever) wasn't that bad... at least there is an end in sight
I think with Jordan, once you see that he is eating and drinking more during the day you'll be able to wean him off the night bottle (obviously this depends on his reflux improving).

I have to or else he won't just get regular gas, he'll get screaming, red in the face type gas pains He'll go right back to sleep, but inevitably wake an hour or two later with gas pains.

I also wanted to add, Miki, that the dreamfeed would be the same as the middle of the night feed with him getting used to it. He'll drop whichever one you decide on eventually.

Re: WWYD? Dreamfeeding vs middle of night feeding
I guess selfishly, the reason I've been thinking about the dreamfeed also is because I've been suffering from horrible reflux myself POST pregnancy. Once I'm up with him in the middle of the night, I'm usually up for hours swigging mylanta from the bottle and can't get back to sleep.

Re: WWYD? Dreamfeeding vs middle of night feeding
Dreamfeeding took practice for me, but once I mastered it, I was able to use it to wean off the night feedings. Not sure if thats what you want to do with the reflux. But try the dreamfeeding a few times, you'll find the way that works best. It took me maybe a week of trial and error before I figured how to do with DS.
I think DS had normal newborn reflux, so I had to feed him and hold him up for 10 minutes before putting him down, because I noticed when I didn't, he'd either get very gassy, or he'd get hiccups and wake up.

Re: WWYD? Dreamfeeding vs middle of night feeding
Jordan sleeps on an acid reflux pillow - 30 degree angle - so he is very upright all night.
Being that I am still up, I may try it tonight!

Re: WWYD? Dreamfeeding vs middle of night feeding
What kinda of reflux pillow does Jordan sleep on? My dd has reflux and will only sleep in the bouncy even at night, sometimes she will nap in the swing. She hates the bassinet even though we elevated it, and the pack and play which I have a wedge under the mattress from BRU.

agreed. we tried dream feeding with Jack to "top him off" and he just wouldnt take it. He wasnt awake enough to understand what was going on and then he would get fussy.
Can you just begin weening the middle of the night bottle?

The website for the pillow is arpillow.com We had him on a wedge but he would just slide off. As you can see from the picture, this pillow has a harness so they can't go anywhere. I had called customer service because I had some questions about the pillow and the owner actually answered. She was really nice. I was about to order the pillow and decided to see if one was available on CL first, which it was. So I bought it off of there.
