WWYD-going back to work and traveling w/infant

So I got the dreaded phone call yesterday from my job. I'm scheduled to go back to work September 1(My DD will be 3 months old).
So here's the dilema- I found out that i have to travel for work to Chicago for 2 weeks in mid september. I don't think i could leave my 3 month old and my 8 year old will be in school so i dont think that i could take her out of school for 2 weeks.

Is there anyway you could forgo the trip - it doesn't seem right to have to go away for 2 wks after going right back to work.
What would they say if you are ebf?

I went back to work in Oct 2007 and took a week long trip to Chicago in Jan 2008. It was hard but I knew DS was in good hands with my in-laws and I enjoyed sleeping lol

Two weeks is a very long time to be away from a 3 month old and 8 year old. Is this kind of travel part of your regular work? I agree that perhaps you should see about not going on the trip altogether. Seems like a LOT to ask of you after just a few weeks back at work. But, of course, you know your job and what your expectations are, so take that with a grain of salt. Chat Icon

If you HAVE to go, I say take the baby with you. Chat Icon

yeah I would not be going anywhere w/ a 3 month old and I would not be leaving a 3 month old for work. Is this really necesary with such a small baby at home?

i would absolutely not take an 8 year old out of school for 2 weeks, especially in september!

your situation is hard. i don't blame you for not wanting to be away from your 3 month old. i would either take the 3 month old and DH with me for a week and let them go home the second week (or stay home the first and come the second) or just go myself. i don't think i would want both parents to be away from my 8 year old, especially during the first few weeks of school, which can be very stressful for little kids.
