WWYD-Name issue ( long)

Ok, many of you have seen my 10 billion name polls, etc. We are obviously having issues making a decision.

So back before my DS was born we choose a girls names we loved ...Hannah. I have loved this name forever, just like I loved my son's name.

So, fast forward, we have a boy...And my half sister has a girl...names her Hannah (she had no clue I liked it).

So I didnt even know my half sister had a baby till after a few months....

We didnt ever communicate....

Till Facebook...now we do talk, only on there though.

I have only met her once in my life...and she now lives in TX.

I have never uttered her daughters name and I didnt even know her son's name till recently.

SO...you can guess where I'm going with this.

All I keep thinking is one name choice would be so easy if I just used that name.

But I just cannot get past the weird feeling with it. That cousins will have the same name...even if its likely they will never meet . I think of my Dad...and him having two grandchildren with the same name.

I happened to mention ( on Facebook ) that I had always loved the name and she replied as part of a longer comment..I dont mind if you use it too.

So would you? Is it really just too weird?

That is a sucky situation....honestly, I wouldn't use it.,,,but NOT because they would ever meet, etc, but because I would know that it had been used by my half sister, if that makes sense....

I would use it. If it's a name you really love. As you said it's not someone that you see at all and you've liked the name for a long time.

It seems like you two aren't very close... and she doesn't live in the same state... and doesn't mind if you use it... so I would go for it!

i dont think its wierd. if YOU love it, use it. they live in a different state!

In my immediate cousins on my Dad's side we have 2 John's and 3 Jim's. Everyone used the names because they liked them and meant something to them. We all see each other all the time, and grew up hanging out, playing, doing everything together.

No one got upset about it, no one has been bothered by it, and my grandmother could care less that some of her grandchildren have the same name.

I say if you like it use it.

I vote use it. It's your girl name - the name you dreamed of using.

In my family there are like 5 "Josephs" b/c everyone is named after their father, and everyone's father is Joe. It's honestly not weird at all - and they do see each other.

Make your life easier and use the name you love

ETS: Hannah sounds like Noah's sister's name by the way

Let me tell you my long, horribe story with cousins and the same names. My dh's family thinks it is the greatest thing in the world, lol. My dh has an older brother who was named after their grandfather. My dh was named after his father. My dh's brother had a boy and named him after his father which is my dh's name. I got pregnant...if it was a boy-I had to name it the same name! Luckily it is a girl(although dh really tried to get me to pick his mom's name for her ). So anyway if I do ever have a boy-the name is already set. I also have a first cousin-younger than me with the same first name as me. She lives in canada we have seen each other two times in our lives..plus with girls it is a little easier b/c the last names are different. With my dh, fil and nephew they have the same first, middle and last names.

So my final answer is-i think you should use it if you love the name.

ITA! I would definately use the name. Especially since she said she's ok with you using it, not that would really stop me anyway but it makes it so much easier!

It's okay for cousins to have the same name. My cousins are together on a daily basis...your half sister lives another state. IF you love Hannah,,,go with it!

Last year, Hannah was the 17th most popular girl's name in the country, and for the previous 9 years, it was always in the top 10. There are going to be quite a few Hannahs that cross DD's path, so I wouldn't worry about a technical stranger halfway across the country with the same name.

I would use it if you love it.
My MIL has two grandsons named Sean..one in Germany, one in Ireland. no issues and she doesn't feel weird about it, neither do the parents or the kids.

Use the name if you love it. you will never regret naming her Hannah but you may regret not naming her Hannah

It's not a close relative - you love the name...

There's a name I really liked (well, actually 2 names) and second cousins of mine, who we're close with, used both of them. I think I may still use one (and if I don't use it - it's not because they did).

Being that you, or your child will most likely never see these people I would absolutely use it.

I would use it. If she was a close relative I may reconsider,but if you only keep in touch via Facebook, I wouldn't think twice about it.

I would use it. I think its a beautiful name and you really love it. Plus it seems you dont see each other and have limited contact. I dont think it would be weird to use the name.

I would use it.

On my SIL's side their are 2 Anthony Joseph's and 2 Marko's. The Anthony's rarely see each other and they are probably 5 or 6 years apart in age and the Marko's don't really see each other a lot either.

I really don't think it is a big deal since you don't see each other and barely know each other. If you lived next door to one another and were BFF then that is a different story I think.

I would say go for it. Specially if she is OK with it as well, nothing would hold me back then.

OMGGGGGG Donna USE the NAME!!!!!!

I thought there was more to it than that. The name is all yours so take advantage of it!

Don't settle on another name b/c of the situation. I thought it was someone in your life all the time. If you LOVE this name, and I know you do, USE IT!!!


Ok so now- is it Hannah and Brooke or Hannah an dCloe or Hannah and Sidney?
