WWYD: Name question
My DH is a Jr. I LOVE his name but I don't want to saddle a child with the title of III. So DH and I want to have his first name, Thomas, as a middle name if we have a boy.
We love the idea of have J.T. as a nickname so we were thinking John Thomas for the full name.
Here's where it gets a little soap-operaish. DH's cousin just found out she is 6+wks preggo and due 10wks after me. Her hubby's name is John and are thinking about using the name too if its a boy.
Even though our last names are different should we still use John as a first name?
The only other J-name we like is Joseph BUT there are a ton of Josephs in DH's family (HUGGGGGGE Italian family!)
WWYD?

Re: WWYD: Name question
i would find another J name.
this happened to people i know - they had a boy and instead of naming it after the father they named it after the father's brother. the brother was pizzed because he and his wife were TTC at the time.
and of course the brother also had a boy, so now there are 2 boys in that family, cousins close in age, with the same name.
even though they do call one (the youngest) by his initials, i think that boy's father is still annoyed.

Re: WWYD: Name question
it doesn't effect anyone in my fam. especially a cousin's kid.
my family uses the same names over and over again.
I have so many cousin billys.
4 aunts, a mother, a sister, and 2 cousins are coleens.
my dad has a sister, Jane. he has 2 brothers, both married Janes. then a different uncle's wife named his daughter Jane after his MIL.
someone needs to buy these people a baby name book.

Re: WWYD: Name question
how close are you to DH's cousin? If the kids will be hanging out together all the time, maybe choose a different J name. Personally, if i really loved the name, I would still use it. But a lot of people are really protective of names and thinks it's a big deal for family/close friends to use the same name. I think if you plan on calling him JT, it really doesn't matter anyway. But if it will create a ton of drama and you want to avoid that, choose another J name. (There are tons of J names that are nice.)

James isn't an option. Its the name of a family member who we do not want to honor.
Jonathan isn't an option either b/c its my cousin's name.
I like Jason and Joshua but DH isn't on board.

how about Jacob, or Jack?
Jack is usually a nickname for John, but you can always make that his actual name

She and her husband were in our wedding party! She is basically DH's pseudo-older sister. They are only a year apart.
Think DC would mind being 'baby boy' for their whole life?
