WWYD New Job?

I'm reeallly torn on what to do!!

Back in November of last year I was laid off from my job of 4 years when I was 6 months pregent. Chat Icon

Between my DH and I, I was the one that made the money that actually paid the bills LOL. After I got laid off, he was looking like crazy for a 2nd job, and finally found one in March. He works well over 70 hours a week, and we are just sorta getting by. There was a month and a half that we didn't pay basically ANY bills for we were waiting for my unemployment to take place. FINALLY it did, but we are STILL behind, b/c we are again, only getting enough each month to 'get by'. It's the worst I've ever been! I was never a day late with anything, and now it's just like, we don't have the money.

Well, anyways, I've been looking for work like CRAZY! First, I was looking for something CLOSE to the pay I was making, which wasn't happening. Then, I decided I would take ANYTHING that was more then I was getting in unemployment, but I was picky on the hours once DS was born. We don't have someone that can watch him 40+ hours a week. So I needed to find something at nihgts...but before 3am for that's when my DH goes to work. Chat Icon

So, finally I got an offer, starting only 10K less then what I was making (but TONS more then unemployment LOL) and we would only need to find a sitter for 2 hours each day. DH gets home at 6, and I would need to leave at 4.

Sooo...my question is... the drive. It's out in Woodbury...and I live in Farmingville. Is this something you think I should even consider? I mean, yes it's a drive, but I think the extra money we get each month will FINALLY get ourselves OUT of this hole we've been in.

WWYD????
TIA!

Yes, I would take the job. Traffic shouldn't be too bad since you are leaving at an off peak hour. Plus, you need the job. It works with your schedule too.

Thanks ladies!! But I see 16% said no way.. can someone tell me why? I mean, I know I'll be sleep deprieved, but I think it'll just be till our feet are back on solid ground, and my home business starts to really grow... Racking up all those miles on my car makes me cringe, but it's really my only option right now...Hmmm....

Re: WWYD New Job?

Well there are a few nights that I don't end up getting to bed till about 12:30 1ish... so really that's only a half hour difference to me...on most nights at least LOL. I will just make sure to do my 'night routine' before I go to work, such as cleaning the house and such. I know that it will be tough... but I'm really not seeing any other options. I mean, lets say I get the job, and the first week I am nothing but exhausted then I may very well have to just pass. But ... I don't know. It's just I don't see any other options for me right now. I can't work during the day b/c we don't have anyone to watch the baby... and daycare is just waaay out of our price range...we need every penny we can get now. This is just soo hard.. Chat Icon

If you normally go to sleep at midnight and this is just a half hour later, I would definitely do it. Maybe your DH could quit his second job and help out more around the house. Chat Icon I know it would kill DH to work 70 hours a week and never see DS, so if you taking this could save him and have him be able to see DS, it would definitely be worth it.

I said other. You can always take it, see how it is working out and continue to look for something closer and more convenient for you.

Thanks! This is the line of how I am thinking right now too... I mean, it's not like I"m gonna take the job and not be able to quit. Plus, it's just something for like a year or so... I just am pretty scared on both the commute and the lack of sleep. I don't know how that will really work out... thus this post LOL. I like the way I am home now, but it's just not enough RIGHT now. In a year from now, that's different.
