I'm glad you stood your ground. If he is happier in the older class- and was flourishing in that class - then that is where he belongs and you shouldn't be bullied into putting him someplace that wouldn't make him happy. My feeling is that if he is in the other class and it isn't right for him you can worry about that later - but if his friends are in this older section and is flourishing in that class then why mess with success!

Good for you for standing up for your son! I agree with what other posters have said about it sounding like the owner just wants to keep him in the younger class and is using his speech delay, which doesn't sound like an issue any more, as an excuse. My son is one of the youngest in his class at pre-school and it was a choice my DH and I made because of what we felt was best for him. We also felt being mixed in with kids who are his age and older would be best for him. He is thriving and, had we listened to what some people were suggesting to us, we'd never know what he's capable of.
You're a great mom. Don't beat yourself up.
