WWYD re: using older crib

My parents live 2.5 hours away from us so when we visit, we stay for the weekend. When I was pregnant, my mom wnet back and forth on getting a crib or a PNP to use at her house. She decided to get the same PNP that I registered for. DS is 3+ months old and has already exceeded the weight limit for the bassinet part of the PNP.

My parents are watching DS Saturday night. My mom mentioned that she doesn't want to keep bending all the way down to pick DS up and put him down in the PNP. Since DS just started sleeping in his crib this weekend, it's likely that they may have to keep picking him up and putting him back down before he falls asleep.

My mom wants to use the crib that belonged to my cousin. The crib is 15 years old. I told her that I will not let DS use such an old crib. My grandfather worked in a child's furniture store for years and claims it's in great shape, but I'm worried b/c the safety standards have changed in the past 15 years. She thinks that it won't be a problem b/c the slats on the crib are close together and the crib would be in our bedroom. She also said she'd stay in the room with DS until we got back.

I still don't feel comfortable using my cousin's crib. Am I wrong in refusing to use such an old crib?

If your DC sleeps at a relative's house, what do you use? If you use a crib, which crib did you get?

Re: WWYD re: using older crib

sorry if it was me, I wouldn't do it.

I know one of the things that you can check is that if you can fit a can of soda through the slats, it is not up to standards of today.

I would tell them it is only for one night Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: WWYD re: using older crib

Lily stays with my dad during the week, and she sleeps in the same crib I did when I was a baby. Every day. Twice a day at least. There has never been a problem.

Its totally up to you though - your comfort levels are different than mine are!

Re: WWYD re: using older crib

15 years old isn't the same kind of crib as when we were babies. I would have no problem with it as long as the slats are at regulation standards, and I'm sure they are.
