WWYD?

What would you say if your DH had the chance to make an extra $14,000 in 3 months on top of his normal (self employeed in the construction industry) income.

Now that is a no brainer but here comes the issues:
1. The job would be actual work, I know as ridiculous as that sounds right now DH is the boss. He has other people doing the work. Physical labor (DH has 2 herniated discs in his lower back that cause him pain).

2. The job is 5 hours from home.

3. We usually spend our summers at the lake which is in that area and the kids and I could go up there to have them spend time with my inlaws which isn't an issue but there would be no daddy during the week.

4. He would lose his summer... but he would be able to suppliment our income or be the income when the summer is slow (it's always slow, the richieits don't want their homes worked on during the summer)

unless we really needed the money, I would not want my DH to do it.

Re: WWYD?

Personally, if my husband wanted to do it, I would support it totally...my husband owns a construction company and does pretty well, but if an opportunity came up for him to earn some good extra money, we would go for it...you never know what the future will bring and we put that kind of extra income away for a rainy day.

Re: WWYD?

the health issues would make me say no. what good is an extra $14,000 if your DH ends up really hurting himself? i know it's a lot of $$ but i would really think twice about it.

i agree. with the herniated disks, i would not want him doing that much manual labor unless you absolutely could not survive without that money.

Ditto...

I would only say yes if you really needed the money badly

Re: WWYD?

only if you really needed the money. If the 14K before or after taxes? I think that also would impact my decision.

ita... giving up summers isnt really an issue- there is always nights and weekends- but if he makes his back worse- then it will affect the free time he does actually have to spend with the kids...

Re: WWYD?

the extra money would be nice but I would rather have my DH home.....
my DH had gotten a 2nd job for a few months just to bring in a little extra money and it was horrible...I missed him and so did the kids....my 2yr old usually freaks when he leaves the house now because she doesnt want him to go to work anymore

Re: WWYD?

I would so def. have DH do it... unless the work really would make his back a lot worse. A summer of semi-sacrifice would be worth it.

I would probably say no. Money isn't worth him injuring his back & being away from the kids for so long. It would be a lot on me as I'd be the only one during the week. If he does do it, I'd want to make sure that he had a good disability policy.
