wwyd...house wit dc
we are in the market for a home. i found one online that i love and want to look at. problem is its not a side street...its a busy road even though its not to busy. The house has a decent sized front yard and a HUGE backyard. I never wanted to live on a main road but something about htis house i love....and since the backyard is so big would you consider it? there is a fence in the front and we are pretty far from the road. there is also sidewalks

Check it out but as someone who lives on a main road, I wouldn't do it.
We have a big backyard too. You hear the cars go by & depending on the type of road - trucks.
So be wary.

My sister's old house was on a main rd. They moved but they can't sell their old house (and it is gorgeous!!) We lived there when we first got married and we heard cars going past all the time!

Maybe if you post the area someone can help w/ how busy it is? We bought on the main road in our development, but it's not a double line main road (only people in the neighborhood generally use it). It's much better than I had feared; there is very little noise at night.

I would not. My kid is a runner, and even with a fence, there are times when he wound up in the street before I could catch him. Now he knows better, this was when he was 1 year to 18 months or so. I was always grateful we were on a quiet street.
Also, there will be traffic noise and a bit more pollution from the cars. Up to you, but I would skip it.

I'd definitely check it out. I live on a side street but there's a lumber yard at the end of my street, so we hear our share of noisy trucks every day too...so every place has it's noise.
ETA: The fence in the front is a huge PLUS for me in your instance. Does it fully cover the yard? Ours does, we can't get to the road/driveway until we open the gate...I love it, and we're on a side street.
