Re: Confused and Upset
Why don't you just tell your old job that you can't take time off in the morning due to your current job. Tell them you have a meeting that you have to attend.
It has to be after work or during a lunch break.
They should understand.

Re: Confused and Upset
OK, I was in your position once. I had my teaching degree and taught one year upstate and liked it, but it was a one year leave replacement, so I had to find a new job the next year. I interviewed all over and got several offers but I went with a school in Suffolk with great pay. I moved here and started and HATED IT. I DREADED going to work every day. I stopped eating, I was just miserable. What would happen if I quit?? I would have to go back to college and get a new degree because teaching wasn’t for me. I had no money saved so how would I survive?? I just got a 4 year degree that was a total waste, it’s like I threw away 4 years of college and the MONEY I spent on it.
Now, I am SUPER independent and I am NOT close with my family at all and I do not take advice from my mom like it has more bearing than other people in my life, but something she said stuck with me… she said “Is anyone going to DIE if you quit?? I mean, are you going to be physically hurt? What is the worst that happens??” and she was right, nothing ‘bad’ was going to happen to me. I could always live with my family until I “got back on my feet”. I couldn’t live like I was living then, not eating, being upset and miserable all the time. I DID quit and it was the BEST thing I ever did! I went back to college at night and worked during the day and now I LOVE my job. I did struggle with money for a while but after a few years here I am now doing really well and I couldn’t be happier!!
Life is SO SHORT. You need to be happy. Money is not worth misery.

Re: Confused and Upset
Are you sure you want to go back to the old company for the SAME $$ ?? If they want you back, why aren't they offering you more?
This is JMO, but speaking from experience being unhappy, or should I say MISERABLE in my job, once you get out of a bad situation, STAY out .......
Are you unhappy b/c you're still unsettled and unsure of yourself in your new job? There is always an adjustment period to a new place. - I agree w/ you SO - Give yourself some time to adjust to the new job. If you still hate it, look for something else. But IMO if you go back to your old company for the SAME money you were making before, you give them all of the power in your career .........

Re: Confused and Upset
the reason it would be going back to the same company with the same money is because it is a completly different department, different type of job, different pple, different boss--it is just the same level..

I gotta agree with this. I would never go back to an old job for the SAME pay. There are always good reasons to return to a previous employer.
But to go back for the same pay just tells that old job that you left them and acknowledge you made a stupid decision, and are desperate.
Now only are they not being fair with their pay, they will probably never be fair with your raises either since they know you came groveling back to them. Yeah that may sound a little extreme, but as a manager of the old job this is how I would look at it if I was in that position.
Did you get your resume out to other jobs? There has to be something out there for you.

Re: Confused and Upset
I did this last year and it was a great move for me! First off, congratulations on your old job wanting you back, obviously you are a hard worker and they recognize you are worth bringing back. When I had originally left my current company I went to go work for a very "fun" place, I did in fact love the work I did, but the hours stunk, and the pay wasn't the greatest, and annual raises were pretty minimal. So even though I wasn't hating the place, when my old company called b/c they had an opening in accounting (which is where I wanted to be the first time I worked for them), I jumped at the chance. I went back for only a slight increase over what I was making (4%?), but it was soooooo worth it!!
Within 3 months of coming back to work here, I was offered a promotion for about 20% more than what I was making when I first came back! You never know what your future could hold, but if your miserable now than its just not worth whatever money you're making. And personally I wouldn't have any qualms about going in late on Thursday. Don't let what your boyfriend has to say make you feel guilty, my husband used to do the same thing to me b/c he's so conservative…….you are the one who has to work there everyday, so your happiness is most important. Good luck!!!!!
