Re: XP - wisdom tooth pain
can you just go to a regular dentist in the meantime? Maybe it's irritating something, which is causing the swelling. There's a chance they could give you an antibiotic that may stop the irritation otherwise at the very least a painkiller maybe, like Motrin or a different one (the name is escaping me right now- sorry). Hope you feel better!

Re: XP - wisdom tooth pain
ugh. have you tried orajel? I have used the kind that look like q-tips and break open and apply the gel to the tooth to numb it. I think they also have rinses OTC that you could try, but unfortunately I don't know names. The last time I had bad tooth pain (pre-pregnancy) I had to get drunk to take the edge off it was so bad.
I also think you should try to get an emergency appointment with a reg dentist, even if it's just to give you an antibiotic...you don't want that puppy to get infected before you can see the oral surgeon.
Feel better....tooth pain is the worst!

Orajel was the ONLY thing that helped before I had those suckers taken out. Honestly, the pain of a wisdom tooth coming in (esp if they are impacted, like mine were) is one of the worst pains EVER.

I agree to maybe get it checked before the oral surgeon just to make sure it is not infected.
I had one of mine (impacted) get infected last month. I was on antibiotics while waiting to get it out and ended up getting a cyst as well.
Lovely.
tooth pain is just soooo annoying, Id try to get my dentist to check it.
Also, lots of Advil.

What got me through the 10 years it took for my wisdome teeth to come in was Advil... lots of it. You can take 3 at a time- that would be like the prescription dose.
Advils is great because it's anti-inflammatory

Re: XP - wisdom tooth pain
I had the same situation a couple of weeks ago. My face was swollen and my gums were so red and irritated. Keep gargling with warm/hot salt water. It definately helped with the swelling and the pain. I have my consultation tomorrow morning with the oral surgeon.
