It looks to me that those who take leave will get 12 weeks paid instead of the measley 6 weeks (natural birth) 8 weeks (c-section) by the state . That would be so much better. They also need to give more than 170 per week for 12 weeks. But extending the paid time sounds good to me.

It sounds to me like the state as of 7/1/08 will give the $170 a week for 12 weeks. However, this does not mean that your employer has to pay you for 12 weeks. I wonder what happens if you deliver in June and are still out in July. Does that mean that you become eligible for it?

Exactly it is solely NYS disability - about $170 a week for 12 weeks. It's better than nothing, and a small step to improving how we handle maternity leave.

I'm due in June, so I'm not sure if I'll be eligible. I'm looking into it and will post more when I find out.
