XPost: 2 questions re: washing things and putting stuff together before baby's arrival

i just had my shower and now the nursery has gift overload!

i got a lot of clothes and i heard to only wash a few things at first. Besides the clothes, what else did you wash? Bedding, blankets, changing table sheet? anything else?

also, what needs to be put together right away? i know i need ready the car seat and probably the frame. i have the rock and play sleeper and i need the bassinet together. no exersaucer or anything like that yet right? those can wait?

Thanks!

Definitely wait on any exersaucers, jumperoos, etc. Those you won't need for a few months.

Honestly, I washed everything.

I washed bedding, blankets (we went through a TON of receiving blankets a day when DS was a NB), towels, changing table cover, and some outfits. DS went home in a 6 month outfit (he is very long), so I wound up returning the small sizes.

I'd put together the crib (or have it ready) and have it ready w/ bedding. DS hated the bassinet and was only in it a day or two. He mostly hung out in the soothing motions glider.

We also used the swing from pretty early on--I'd have that ready.

I washed EVERYTHING! and wished I didnt. i ended up getting clothes that were off season and were never able to use it. i have too many robes and towels and blankets. i would just wash some things. like 3 sheets, 2 blankets, 2 swaddles, 2 towels, and a bunch of footsie pjs. at that age i didnt put DS is "outfits". he was in pjs all day.

I washed everything she could possibly wear in the first 9 months and I'm honestly glad I did. I also washed the swing, bouncer, FP newborn rocker, activity mat, and high chair covers, all her blankets, cloth diapers (I use them as another barrier for when I'm changing her... she likes to soak it all), and all the water proof pads & burp cloths. We didn't have that much clothing at first, so it was really good to have it all washed and ready. I had to go out the first week and get a bunch more nb clothes simply because we didn't have enough.

If you have more per size than you think she'd wear in 2 weeks, maybe just wait (especially if laundry is convenient for you to do). We received most presents after DD was born, which is why I just washed everything I could before she was born that I had.

I'd put together anything you'd want to put her down in. It's nice to be able to put the baby down. The bouncer / swing is great. Our DD sleeps in the nb rocker so of course that (it's great -- we took her to a friend's house for a baby shower yesterday and were able to put her down for her nap in their bedroom because it was her same usual bed... so convenient... I'm scared for when she outgrows it lol).

I would wash a few onesies, feetie pj's, swaddles, and one or two hooded towels, blankets, crib sheets, receiving blankets/burp cloths, and changing pad covers. Like the pp said, no 'outfits' yet until you need them because most likely your DC will be in onesies or pjs all day. You can always wash as you go but if you wash everything now, you run the risk of not being able to return things you don't end up using (and trust me, there will be a LOT of things you don't end up using or needing!).

As far as what to put together, if you plan on having the baby sleep in your room, I'd put together the bassinet. I would also put together the swing if you registered for one and the bouncy chair if you plan on using it. You have MONTHS before you'll need the exersaucer/jumperoo so save those for later.
