I heard yanny the first few times I listened to it. Then I tried it again and heard laurel. Then I was hearing a weird combination - kind of "yannel". Now I'm back to yanny lol

Not once have I heard Laurel
I closed my eyes, I listened on the tv, my cell phone, the radio and no Laurel whatsoever!! It’s mindblowing to me! They said it’s recorded as Laurel
It’s bizzare! Lol

I actually heard both. The first time it was so distinctly Laurel... the second time, a day later, was so distinctly yanny. It was so weird. I still feel like I heard two different recordings.

Re: Yanny or Laurel

When I play it on my computer it is very clearly Laurel. If I play it on my phone it sounds like Yanny. I read that it has to do with the speaker settings. If you mess with the treble or something it will change what your hearing. I forget exactly what the article said, but basically it's both names are recorded on the same audio but depending on how your speakers are set and what you're concentrating on, you'll hear something different.

But how are two people sitting next to each other hearing two completely different sounds? That's what I don't get!

It has to do with what kind of frequencies your ears are picking up on I think. Some people hear higher frequencies more easily and those people hear Yanny?? I think that's how I heard it explained.

Yeah, I just found a video on YouTube that explains it better:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDiXQl7grPQ&t=118s

I can actually hear both now. If I listen for the yanny, that's what I hear. Kind of like those optical illusion things, but with your ears instead of eyes lol.

I hear ‘yammy’ too. Ah whatever. This is all useless in the grand scheme of things.
