Your best Split Pea Soup Recipe

I made a ham yesterday so I wanna make a split pea soup with the leftover ham bone. I need your best recipe. DH likes it more on the thick side!
TIA!

I use the one on the back of the bag (for water amounts). Add a large onion cut in big pieces and a lot of garlic cloves (6-8 large).

When its almost done, I add cut up hot dogs.

You asked for MY best recipes - not one with ham in the title!

Re: Your best Split Pea Soup Recipe

I make it all the time in my crockpot.

I add a couple of cups of chopped baby carrots, cup chopped onion, some minced garlic, a cup of small chopped potatoes, a few bay leaves (my DH doesn't like celery)
1 bag of dry green peas
Fill with water & cook on low for 8-10hours
At the end I add some dry mustard (about 2 tsp), salt & pepper

I made a ham for the 1st time last week, so for the 1st time was able to add diced ham.

Always thick & hearty!

Re: Your best Split Pea Soup Recipe

Just made some over the weekend. I buy the goya bagged peas, rinse them in cold water and pick out the bad ones.

Mince couple cloves garlic, chop an onion, couple of carrots, dice a couple of red potatoes (to soak up salt from ham) dice ham and throw all in with ham hock. I fill with chicken stock and water. Bring to a boil, then cook on Med. then simmer with lid. Takes a couple of hours. Stir occasionally. Cook until peas are tender or consistency you like. I like mine thick as well, sorta stew like. But, if it's too thick, you can always add more water.

I never use recipes, just sorta put it all together! Enjoy!
