Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
Mine went well. The anethesiologist talked me through everything as it happened. He was wonderful! Just be aware that you could be bumped for emergency c-sections.

EVERYONE was awesome! Doctors, nurses everyone! I cannot say enough about that place. The day after my c-section they helped me to get up and walk around.

Do they bring the baby into recovery? Are you able to take pictures after the baby is born?

Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
It was great. DH was able to take pics as soon as DD was born, he took pics as she was being cleaned and weighed. He cut the umbilical cord and he held her next to me. As I was moved to the stretcher to head into recovery the nurse told DH to hand me the baby and I was able to hold her as I was rolled into recovery. I immediatly BF her. The nurses on the floor were great. Always asked if I needed pain medication. It was a totally different experiance than my 1st c/s (at a different hosptial)

Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
Do they have a maternity recovery? With my c/s's both times i was in what seemed like the main recovery of the hospital with people who had brain surgery and stuff like that. I was hoping to try for a vba2c but my due date is today and no baby...i dont think he has any plans on coming out. This time i'll be in a different hospital then where i had my other c/s so im hoping its much better then my last 2. Thanks for all the info!

Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
They were wonderful! As soon as DS was born DH was able to go take pictures. Once he was cleaned up DH sat next to me holding the baby while they finished up with me. When we were in recovery (I wsa the only person there at all- I had a late c-section) I got to hold him and take more pictures. Then DH went up to the nursery for his first bath and I rested. Everyone there was amazing!!

Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
I also had a wonderful experience there. I wasn't a planned c, but they took excellent care of me and I was transferred to a private room on my second day. I was allowed to stay 4 nights but left after 3 (the doctor cleared me).

Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
They were AWESOME! I had a GREAT experience and would never go anywhere else !
I went into the OR and was very nervous and everyone in there made me feel GREAT. I was VERY VERY nervous and they were awesome!
My DH hled her immediatel after she was born and when they wheeled me out of the OR into recovery they had me hold her. (I could cry thinking back).
She satyed with me and DH for about an hour in recovery and then they took her to bathe her etc....
By the time I got to my room that afternoon I had her right back!
WONDERFUL experience and I also had an AWESOME OB!

I had a scheduled c-section there. The nurses were really nice.
I was scheduled at 1pm but I had 2 emergency c-sections go ahead of me. I was in labor.
I was in the "triage" room and prepped. Gown, IV, etc.. for the OR.
Then I walk to the OR. Then I met with the anesthesiologist. We did my spinal tap. DH was putting on his little outfit (he was not allowed with me in the OR while I was being set with the spinal tap). After being laid down, they put a warm blanket on me (it's freezing in there). They instructed DH NOT to stand up. He was sitting next to me by my shoulders/head.
DS was born about 15 minutes later. They took DS to the warming table to clean him up. DH cut the cord. Took pics of DS being cleaned up. (not of me... not allowed! Well, not the surgery area). They make prints of his feet. DH got DS in his arms and brought him to me. You will not be able to hold the baby. Your arms are strapped.
Once stiched up (takes another 45-50 minutes), you will go to the recovery area. There are a few beds devided by curtains. I was giving DS because I made clear I wanted to BF him. So I spent about 20 minutes or so with him. Maybe a bit longer. I was shaking. DH took more pics. Then they took DS after he was BFd and trasnfered him to the nursery for full examination by PEDs.

Re: Your c-section experience at Winthrop??
The first one was a little crazy. I was scheduled, because of a previa, but went in as an emergency b/c I went into labor at 36.5 weeks. The spinal did not take 100% and I felt alot more than I should have. But we had to go quickly b/c I was bleeding, and they had only minutes to deliver DS & get my placenta out. This one took 1 1/2 hours from start to finish.
The second one was smooth as silk. I tried for a VBAC, but after several hours of steady contractions I never dilated. At all. So we went in, I got 2 spinals (I am resistant to the meds) as DH get prepped. As soon as I was numb & satrapped to the table, they had DS sit near my head. The Dr I had allowed him to take pics of DS actually being born, but every Dr is different. Since DH had seen a c-section before, he was not "surprised" with anything that was going on. 10 minutes and the surgery was over and DS was born in the blink of an eye. There was an intern with the Dr, and they asked me ahead of time if I was OK with an intern stitching me up. I was OK with it, as I trust my Dr not to allow anyone incapable in the OR. They allowed me to take one arm out of the straps as they cleaned & prepped DS, and DH brought him over. The anesthesiologist was awesome, and sat on the other side of my head the whole time to make sure that I was not regaining sensation in my mid-section like I did the first time. The nurses were amazing, and were talking to me the whole time. I asked them to give me a "play-by-play" of what the Drs were doing. From the first cut to the last steristrip was 12 minutes! It was super-quick!!! We had a great experience in recovery, and were able to try & nurse DS right away. The Pediatrician examined him in the delivery room, and since we did not get any vaccines other than the VIt K shot, he followed us right to recovery. We spent about 1/2 hour together, then DS asked the nurse to walk him & the baby out to the waiting room so that our family could meet himl. I was up & walking that night!

Thanks Ladies!! Sounds like everyone had a good experience. Just one more question, how long was your stay? With mine i had to stay 4 days each time. With my 1st DS I stayed 5 days, because I had some muscle trauma from the surgery. With 2nd DS, I was allowed to leave after the 3rd day, but I opted to stay one more day tomake sure my incision was healing properly. I also asked the Dr for SteriStrips instead of staples, so I did not have any removal that I had to stay for. Also, DSs are not circumcised, so we did not have to wait for any healing there either.
