Re: Covid Testing in Young Children
I would most likely not jump to having my young child tested. If anything I may schedule a test for myself and my husband. If your child did have it it would be possible for you to have it and be asymptomatic. I'd rather go through the torture then my child. I guess it also depends what next steps are. I assume you'll keep your child home while they are sick anyway. Getting tested yourself will guide if whole family should be staying home.

Re: Covid Testing in Young Children
I would only go to the dr if I think my DC had an ear infection or strep so they can get medicine. Literally it can be anything and I personally wouldnt be having my kids test every time they are sick.
Unless they had multiple symptoms of what could be covid I may consider them getting tested its not like there is a treatment for covid .

Re: Covid Testing in Young Children
Thank you to everyone for your input. These are exactly the things that have been holding me back from taking him in- I can't justify in my mind running out to get a Covid test every time one of us has the sniffles, but it's also better to be safe than sorry. His fever returned this afternoon, though lower, and he still doesn't have much of an appetite. My regular ped. couldn't even see us so I am taking him into PM Pediatrics in Rockville Centre- I've always had such a positive experience with them. I did a telehealth visit with them before deciding to go in- they were very helpful and they echoed everyone's sentiments here... they don't think it's absolutely necessary but it is their policy to test anyone who has had a fever of 100.4 or higher for 24+ hours for Covid. So he's napping at the moment but as soon as he's up, I'm heading over there to get him tested. Wish me luck!

Re: Covid Testing in Young Children
I thought low fevers were a symptom of covid, not high. U said other than the fever (which is not always a bad thing -we gotta remember that it’s a body mechanism to fight against something foreign), he’s fine and being himself. I’d just monitor the fever and avoid the test especially since u said his last visit to the dr wasn’t a good experience for him and the test can be quite invasive. But that’s just what I’d do, ultimately u gotta do what makes u comfortable. I hope ur little one feels better soon!

Re: Covid Testing in Young Children
He took a test- but it wasn't the deep nasal swab. It was still a nasal swab but it didn't seem like they went as far as they do with adults. Or maybe they couldn't because he was like a wild animal.
Negative.
No strep, no flu, no covid, no ear/eye/throat/sinus infections...
He still has been running a fever on and off and he's been crankier and not eating. They said it's probably just a cold but ugh it's killing me. I just want him to get better.
