I have a question. I see people now scared about the Delta Variant but how about next year and the year after that. Every year its gonna be something new. Are we just forever going to wear masks? And its alot of dreaming to think everyone including children will be vaccinated. So when do you stop being scared? or will people just realize its here forever and you just need to live with it and move on with life?
As long as there is media promoting and scaring people, some will always be worried and wear a mask. Stop testing, stay home if sick, and only go to the hospital in dire need. There has always been hypochondriacs and there always will be. The ones that run to the doctor or ER for the smallest things that don’t need to be. Suffolk County has had no deaths and that is what the goal is. Not sure about other states as I have not looked and if anyone who is afraid of this variant would like to provide numbers, that would be great. Many just listen to whatever is told to them and don’t really do their own research to see things are not always as bad as the media tells them it is.
I work for a major NYC hospital system and we were told the numbers are rising as are hospital admissions and ICU cases. These are FACTS based on data collected daily. Viruses only mutate if they have hosts and the more people vaccinated the lower the rate the Covid virus (or any virus) will mutate- another scientific FACT- Many of us scientists have all continued to wear our masks indoors regardless because people do not stay home when they are sick and many in our region share BS false “facts” with little regard for anyone but themselves. You can look up the data yourself but in the past month the total number of cases in NYS went from about 0.25% to over 1% if the spread continues at the same rate the fall is going to look a lot like last year- getting ill and being hospitalized is a strain on the healthcare system- there is more to it than how many people die from Covid in Suffolk county. The Covid alert NY app will allow you to look at your tiny piece of the universe in Suffolk as well as the rest of NYS.
U’re saying that if the spread continues at the same rate, the fall is going to look a lot like last year? How so considering the majority of people have been vaccinated already (starting from age 12 and up)?
I would love to know that too.
So your saying it doesn't matter that all these people on long island got vaccinated?
Also, how does one expect 100 percent of people to get vaccinated? I know i'm not gonna be first online for kids getting vaccinated no matter how much its "forced". So are you saying every year will be the same since every year will surely be something new.
I did not say it doesn’t matter that people got vaccinated BUT kids 12 and under and unvaccinated adults still make up a good percentage of the population. There are still break through infections and it may be possible for a vaccinated adult to infect their unvaccinated child. The vaccine is most effective at preventing death and reducing the symptoms like we have seen with other vaccines like the flu and chicken pox vaccines. I also did not say 100% of people need to be vaccinated but the population needs to meet a threshold of immunity to eliminate spreed- it has been done with other infectious disease like polio but YES there will be new infections that arise over time. This is not a new concept. Over time there will be new viruses and new strains of old ones. The idea is to minimize risk. Vaccines help minimize the risk. These are facts that have been observed over time with different vaccines. Our society is selfish as a whole- many people do not stay home when they are sick- this too is not new. If we stop testing it is not going to eliminate the risk it is just going to stop keeping track of it but some like the ignorance is bliss approach to life.
I don’t think it is bliss but just like every other virus that we don’t have numbers every single day, stay home and only get tested when truly needed and need medicine to cure. Imagine if we got numbers everyday for every time someone went to get tested for the flu or step or pneumonia, etc, etc. of course it would scare people.
I don’t agree at all and workplaces need to be more lenient but many don’t stay home because they won’t get paid and possibly lose their jobs. Most of us are fortunate to have sick days and don’t think twice and forget the ones that literally live paycheck to paycheck and maybe new at their jobs or just have ones that don’t offer many days off.
Covid is a world pandemic and far from any other virus BUT the number of flu cases ARE reported by the CDC weekly: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/fluactivitysurv.htm
So there is no need for me to image what it would be like to keep track of the number of infections because this information is readily available to anyone who cares to look it up.
As for people working when they are ill it is selfish!! Covid or not stay home when you are ill. I have been fortunate enough to always work in an environment where employees were given ample sick time and people STILL come to work sick like it is some type of badge of honor. My husband is a small business owner and encourages his employees to stay home when ill. What purpose does it serve to infect your co workers?? Many of us have had times where finances were tight and we needed to work but the majority of bosses I have encountered are understanding especially now when most businesses do not want anyone with any symptoms of a cold or virus on the premises. You go on about facts and data but in the end it seems that you really just want to live in a pre Covid world and for now that is just not the case. Irresponsible adults are putting the kids under 12 at risk since they cannot be vaccinated- keep that in mind when you feel burdened by wearing a mask for a few minutes when near someone else’s child.
What are the numbers for kids under 12? Seriously- what is the percentage of deaths of children under 12. I want a real number. Is it higher than the percentage for adults? The same? How much of a risk is this to children? I would love to see some studies and fact based data. Before i lock up my child in the basement for fear of certain death. Because several and I mean SEVERAL of her friends have had covid. And 99% had zero symptoms at all . And 1% had a sniffle and a head cold So enough of this fear monger about our children dying in droves from this.
They put out numbers but nothing about the children that had serious conditions and/or died. I am betting these poor children had underlying conditions. Even though it truly doesn’t matter in the long run as they lost their lives, it is not the same as the kids who have the sniffles or nothing at all. I watch the numbers here everyday and the positive has gone up but not the hospitalizations nor deaths. After awhile the numbers will just stop being published as I know in other states they don’t even share them like they used to.

This isn’t fear mongering. I also did not say children are dying in droves so please DO NOT twist my words with your drama but since we still do not know all of the long term effect (but we do know there are long term effects based on current evidence) so prevention seems like the safest route! The few people I know who had Covid were very ill. One was hospitalized and is still on medication to prevent blood clots. I am not saying lock you child up (speak of fear mongering) but it seems prudent to try to prevent them from getting sick- children have died and there is no way to determine who will get a mild case and who will get very ill.
C’mon, u insinuated it. The reality is that there’s an enormous push to get vaccine approval for kids under 12 so all this fear mongering, yes I mean that, is real and I think unfortunately that it’ll be successful at getting that approval before the year is over. But just like the article cited above says...”there is no evidence that children are more susceptible to the delta variant of the virus than others who are unvaccinated or that it causes more severe illness.” So why are the focus so intense on this subpopulation? Because of the pending approval. I’m not saying that no child or unvaccinated individual would never die from this virus, I wouldn’t say that about any other virus but that’s why statistics are helpful in that situation and they show us that most children that have gotten the virus show no symptoms so it’s not like how u put it on ur last sentence “there is no way to determine who will get a ‘mild case’ and who will get ‘very ill’”.

Exactly, so many only read headlines. They throw things in like this in the middle of articles since they know most won’t even read that far. I really think some people in this board live in a totally different world than others.

But just like the article cited above says....” So why are the focus so intense on this subpopulation? Because of the pending approval. I’m not saying that no child or unvaccinated individual would never die from this virus, I wouldn’t say that about any other virus but that’s why statistics are helpful in that situation and they show us that most children that have gotten the virus show no symptoms so it’s not like how u put it on ur last sentence “there is no way to determine who will get a ‘mild case’ and who will get ‘very ill’”.
Exactly. What I took from that article... ”there is no evidence that children are more susceptible to the delta variant of the virus than others who are unvaccinated or that it causes more severe illness" So...again I ask...where is the proof that children are in so much danger? All the...but the children! The unvaccinated children! All fear mongering until you can produce data that shows children are getting severally ill from this. As in, more than a head cold... Out of the 3 people in my little family, my daughter is the LEAST likely to get severely ill from this. That's an actual fact

If you are vaccinated, are you still wearing a mask?
I would like to know the numbers of new current covid cases. Of those, how many children or older, how many unvaccinated and vaccinated. If someone has that, i want to see who really needs to be scared over this.
Still not slapping a mask back on my kids or myself over media made hysteria till i see actual facts or our almighty King Cuomo says otherwise.

No my intent was not to insight fear- you can make up whatever non sense you want or try to read into what I am saying that was not at all intended- why the focus on kids because all unvaccinated people are at higher risk and everyone OVER the age if 12 has the option to get vaccinated IF they want to reduce their risk- children do not- the vaccine is in trials so it is not because the risk is lower as was stated by a previous poster. I think ALL unvaccinated people are at risk as the article states but adults have a choice young children do not- IF you and other want statistics then look them up yourself- I generally post very little on this site now that it has turned into a mean girls playground but the false information is just too much- some of the nonsense unreal-if you don’t want to get vaccinated or wear a mask then don’t but kids like mine are vulnerable due to the choices of adults. As for children showing no symptoms that is often true but there is data showing that a symptomatic individuals can have long term effects from COVID-19. I am not sure why anyone would want a virus- any virus that could be prevented by a vaccine and small lifestyle changes like staying home when they are ill or wearing a mask in a crowed place.

Is there a separate test that tells you if you have the Delta variant?
They need to sequence it in addition to PCR.
So they do this for every test?

If you are vaccinated, are you still wearing a mask?
It seems like those who are vaccinated are fully aware that you can still catch and pass on COVID, and that the vaccine is not a magic cure for COVID. Those who are not vaccinated are the ones who always have to comment on social media about COVID not being gone with the vaccine and have to always make a comment when someone who is vaccinated gets COVID.
I am vaccinated. My parents are not. I mask when I am around them for that reason. I also mask in public still, but that is only because I have an international trip planned in a few weeks and I don't want to risk getting COVID when I have to test negative to travel.
I am also a NYC teacher so I will need to mask up in the fall for work since my students cannot yet be vaccinated.

I guess you are missing all the vaccinated people calling unvaccinated selfish all over social media. The media likes to pit people against each other and are doing a great job right now with Covid and new variants accomplishing that.

A couple months ago, myself and other posters, were treated pretty harshly when we said the same thing about the vaccine not preventing Covid and still being able to spread it. Now those who said all those nasty things are suddenly MIA

Well now you will just be selfish and not think of your fellow man. Even though we were told they would be fine being vaccinated and only the unvaccinated should worry as they would be the only ones to get sick.

If you are vaccinated, are you still wearing a mask?
Just saw a discussion with some doctors on News12 and they were asked percentages. The one doctor said that new cases they have seen is 99% unvaccinated. And that breakthrough cases make up 1% and have been a symptomatic or very mild. But what I want to know is percentage of children, older adults and people with compromised health in that percentage and whether it’s the delta variant.

GOOD luck finding that out. There seems to have never been any stats out like that.
Silly you, it wouldn’t scare you then if they told you that and not just thrown numbers out there everyday.

I would like to know how many of this 99% unvaccinated had Covid this year.

Re: If you are vaccinated, are you still wearing a mask?
https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/20/health/covid-children-cases-schools-reopening/index.html
(CNN)New Covid-19 cases among children are back on the rise after months of declines, just as schools across the United States are gearing up to reopen in a few weeks.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) said Tuesday more than 23,550 child cases of Covid were reported between July 8 and 15 -- nearly double what was being reported in late June. Child age ranges vary by state, according to the group's most recent report, with more than half of states defining children as anyone 19 or younger, and two states -- Utah and Florida -- limiting the range to anyone 14 or younger.
Mississippi health officer warns about Covid-19 surge that has put 7 children in intensive care. The AAP said severe illness remains rare among children, but with Covid-19 cases rising in most of the country once again, experts have warned lagging vaccinations and the ferocious Delta variant could spell trouble for the country's youngest, many of whom are still ineligible for a vaccine. "So many people, unvaccinated individuals, are getting Delta that children are getting swept up along with it, and I think this is going to make things very difficult as the school year opens," Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, said Tuesday. The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday also stressed the need to take the virus -- and its threat to children -- seriously.
"I think we fall into this flawed thinking of saying that only 400 of these 600,000 deaths from Covid-19 have been in children," CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions hearing. "Children are not supposed to die. And so, 400 is a huge amount for respiratory season." ...

Breakthrough cases remain low because vaccinated are not required to test for many things.
I’d bet if we started testing asymptotic vaccinated people the numbers would go up.
