I guess our district may be doing the same? I heard they have them but yesterday when the nurse called she recommended I buy some to have on hand. But I was confused as a negative rapid with symptoms historically has meant nothing to let them return to school.

Then schedule a PCR for after the quarantine to get a negative to return to school. I feel like it only helps to reduce the craziness of trying to get the first test. Now you only have to worry about the follow up to prove negative.
They changed the rules at my husbands job. You have to show your positive to get Covid pay while out. So one of his coworkers waited 4 hours for a PCR test. Couldn’t get it and had to go home because he was too sick to stand there any longer. Now he is home without pay and can’t prove if he has Covid or not. He also can’t come back to work until he shows he’s negative. It’s such a nightmare.
This is kind of a side note, but why is a negative test required to come back? The cdc guidelines are that you are safe after the 10 days. You can still test positive for weeks and months after you have it. This is absolute insanity now!
Our school requires nothing to come back except to be past the 10 days. And I have no intention of testing my kids just for fun so I'm opting out of the expired tests.
And tbh if my employer is not paying me I'm going in.

School provided test kits
Our school doesn't require a negative test after infection. As long as you quarantine 10 days from when you test positive, you're cleared to come back. They actually don't ever require a negative test to return- if you're exposed you're home for 10 days anyway. Even if a child is home sick- they just tell you to consult your doctor to see if they think your child needs a test. They won't request it.

They can be used up to 3 months past the expiration date, our district let us know.
Some districts are requiring all students to test with them (I know Yonkers is). That really was the state's intention, so I would guess that's why they weren't worried about the expiration date. Many districts just refused to use them in that way.

I can see why they wouldn't want to use them that way though- how do you really trust people are doing the tests right or at all?
If they really want to be safe, it would have to be a test done by a certified testing site with certified results.
Not an at home test that you can easily fake

Yup. Our test kits also have the Jan 2022 expiration date. The school said the FDA says test kits are valid until 90 days after expiration date....so what's the point of an expiration date then. It's a full on clown show now and we are part of the circus.

My Dh wants to test our cats to see what comes up just for fun.
Yes I heard cats can have another strain of corona virus so maybe!
Mind would never let me test them though! Too bitchy. lol

I’m my example,I think you would need a negative PCR test since the first initial positive was a rapid test. Companies and schools don’t want rapid test results to come back.
ETA: and only if you had to report it to the school. I won’t be getting a PCR test for my son because he was off when he tested positive and remote this week. I will do another rapid on Saturday for us.

Is it weird that I have never in my life had a Covid test?
Nor has my daughter.
My DH did twice only because he wanted to visit his dad in the nursing home last year when it was locked down- after Cuomo killed so many nursing home residents. So they were finally allowing visitors but you had to test negative to be let in.
After both negative tests he was all set to go and they cancelled on him both times because of a positive case in the nursing home. Both times he wasted his time getting tested for no reason.
Now he just goes and visits whenever the hell he wants with no test.
Ah how rules have changed!!

originally the governor floated the idea of giving it so everyone can test before coming back to school. i think that was realized rather quickly that is impossible.
then i guess they were just going to give it out to those who want them because there are those who want to test to make sure they don't have it.
then my district decided it was a better idea to keep them to help implement the test to stay program for those who were exposed can stay in and not quarantine if they test negative.

I do recall her briefly mentioning test to return. When she was talking about test to stay. She prob realized that the home tests weren't really that accurate and provide a lot of false negatives.

Not weird at all. I have never tested, neither have my kids. My husband only tested once at the very beginning just to see what it’d come up, and of course it was negative.

They do! It’s FCoV. Most cats have it. Unless your cat has never lived with another cat or doesn’t come for a shelter, the your cat most likely has it.it’s very rare that a cat will not have it. Even reputable breeders have it.
What’s dangerous is when it mutates to FIP. It happens in young kittens or very old cats.
There is no 100% test for FIP only for FCoV. If your cat is having a bit of diarrhea, then it could possibly be an FCoV flare up.
Unfortunately, I had a kitten die from FIP. Both my cats have FCoV.
