Updated Covid protocols
We just received updated protocols from our district.
Now, if a student has symptoms, they need a negative on any type of test, including a home test - they no longer need a negative PCR.
If someone is exposed they SHOULD wear a mask for 10 days and use a home test but they don't HAVE to wear a mask for 10 days.
If you have Covid, you can return on day 6 but have to wear a well fitting mask on days 6-10 (but you can resume extracurriculars with that well fitting mask on)

Re: Updated Covid protocols
But I was able to go to a packed concert the other night with NO protocols at all. Makes sense.

Yeah - but it's a lot better than it was, unless you HAVE covid, you can go to school. And if you do have covid, you are only home for 5 days...

ITA and it is wonderful for the children. It all just makes no sense. There is no consistency.

Definitely not. I had to go to the dentist today and DS had to go to the orthodontist and it's odd to wear a mask to a place where they are working in your mouth lol. I understand why THEY want to mask but it's strange for us to mask.

Re: Updated Covid protocols
So are they admitting all the over the top protocols of the last 2 years were not really necessary?

Covid gets a little jealous and always has to make a comeback.

I’m predicting a comeback end of November-ish. Especially in NY schools.
It’s just so fascinating how quickly certain people move on from things.

I don’t think you can compare children going to school to an adult choosing to attend a concert.

It’s barely mentioned. And we haven’t heard from Fauci in awhile lol.
I just feel bad for the preschoolers in NYC who are still masked

It’s just all a mess with the different rules.

It is horrible and I would fight that if I were those parents.

Updated Covid protocols
The parents of NYC preschool students are fighting it. There was a lawsuit filed yesterday as well as a rally and several petitions. He claims they will be unmaskes soon, but I don't know what soon means to him lol.

Yes his definition of soon doesn’t correspond with mine lol. Just crazy it’s the last unmasked group when numbers are so low anyway.

Updated Covid protocols
It is nice not having to rush out for testing for every symptom. DS is congested and coughed a lot overnight so I tested him at home this am. It was awkward but negative lol. He’s still not going to school as he slept poorly but it’s nice to not have to take him to the doctor for basic congestion.

NYC is a $hit show and I say that as a NYC resident with a kid in NYC schools. they are allowed to unmask now, and we were told some of the restrictions in the cafeteria were lifted on Monday- that they could sit 4 to a booth and 6 to a table and sit wherever they wanted starting yesterday. Yesterday, my daughter sat in a booth with 1 friend- they were discussing a project. They announced at lunch- "where you are sitting today is now your permanent seat, guidance has changed" WTF. Overnight, guidance changed? We're 2 years in, get it together!!

That's annoying - especially since the state guidance came out last week and hasn't changed.

Maybe I'm wrong but I haven't tested my daughter for any basic congestion once. She's had a few head colds- I considered them head colds and that was it. No fever, no other symptoms. Does your school make you test for every little sniffle? That's maddening

They don't make us test for every sniffle (he was sniffly on Monday and Tuesday) but with the coughing and lack of sleep - there was no way I could have sent him to school. And since I was keeping him home with a symptom, I'd need to show a negative test of any kind for him to return.
ETA - Meanwhile, he went to play XBOX and hasn't coughed in about half an hour now, the longest stretch in awhile lol. I guess someone else is home though as he's talking to someone.

That is ridiculous that the only thing they think an illness is (or a cough as your child), is covid and that you HAVE to be tested for that. How long do they intend to do this? They don't make you test for flu or pneumonia or strep, etc etc. It really needs to just end and treat this like every other virus.
