neighbors- WWYD?
My neighbors have friends staying with them for a few weeks. The friends have a dog and they walk it. They have been continuously walking the dog over to our side of the lawn and the dog pees on our lawn. We share a front lawn with the neighbor but you can tell where their lawn ends and ours starts pretty clearly. My DH is annoyed bc he says the grass will get yellow. Do we say anything to the neighbors or don't say anything and know that their friends are leaving in about 2 weeks?

I think you have every right to say something and kindly ask them to stop. However, I am generally a non confrontational person by nature so I would probably stew and never say anything and count down the days until the guests leave!

That's really annoying and inconsiderate. But if you know they'll be gone soon I'd bite my tongue.
Unless the grass starts to show signs of damage. Then I'd mention it asap.

I don't like confrontation so I would buy a sign that says "Don't pee on our lawn".

Yes, if it's really bothering you I would get one of the little signs. However, not all dog pee will turn the lawn yellow. My dog's does not. She pees all over my backyard and it's fine. If it's been a few days and it hasn't turned yet, it probably won't. Animals pee all over our lawns all day and night long so I would just think of it like that.

Personally I would overlook it knowing its not a permanent situation. I'm sure lots of people walk by your house and their dogs pee and you don't even know it. It happens.

That's so rude. I can't stand when people let their animals pee and poop all over other people's property. I would ask them to kindly have their guest's dog pee on their own lawn.

So DH mentioned it to the neighbor when he saw him outside yesterday bc it is starting to show spots on our grass. The neighbor said that the dog has never peed on our lawn but he'd tell his guests to make sure they don't walk to dog through our grass. Today, I saw them take the dog down the other side of the block and the dog peed on my other neighbors lawn.

I find it funny that your neighbor was so confident that his guest’s dog never peed on your property. Does he run a blacklight over your property each night to check for biological fluids?

Every dog I’ve ever had burned the lawn. Even with giving those supplements to try and stop it. Girls, boys, didn’t matter. It’s more common they burn the lawn than don’t. Please don’t let your dog pee on peoples lawns. It’s not cool.

Totally agree. I have 2 dogs, and when I take them on walks, I NEVER let them pee on other people's lawn. It is just common courtesy. If you feel comfortable saying something, maybe catch them in the act and politely ask them to go on their own lawn. If you dont want any confrontation, I would get a sign and put it on your side of the lawn.

How do you stop your dog from peeing on people's lawns just out of curiousity? Do they pee on the street when you walk them? I can assure you my dog pees all over my backyard, not one spot of burned grass. I think that it depends on the type of dog that you have. I have an extremely small dog. It seems with bigger dogs it does seem to kill the lawn more than the little ones. There are stray cats, raccoons, possum, fox, etc. much bigger than my dog that are all over my neighborhood peeing all over everyone's lawns. If you think your lawn doesn't have animal pee all over it, you're mistaken. It would be one thing if your dog pooped and you didn't clean it up but I am sure there is animal pee everywhere.

First off, I dont take my dogs for walks very often, because I have an acre property, so my dogs roam freely in my fenced yard. I live in a cul-sac, so when I do walk them, I keep them on the street, and if they walk on the lawn, I tug them back. I find it rude to let my dogs walk on other people's lawns. I have burnt spots all over my lawn fro their urine, but My husband is a landscaper, so our lawn is pretty green. I cant keep stray cats, and other wild animals away from my property, but I assure you I keep my 2 dogs off of other people's lawns

Yeah see I walk my dog 2.5 miles every morning so I don't see how I would keep my dog from going to the bathroom during that time. I have a very small piece of property so my dog needs to get out and get exercise. Because most people where I live live on relatively small pieces of property the entire neighborhood is filled with people walking their dogs, all letting them happily pee on eachother's lawns. I have never heard one person complaining that a dog was peeing on their lawn. Maybe it's because we all have landscapers so perhaps they all take care of any burn marks relatively quickly, or maybe because people just don't have the time to get upset about something so trivial. I can understand the OP's frustration since it is one dog and they could clearly just keep the dog on her neighbors property. But I would just never even think to care if someone was walking by my house and their dog peed on my lawn or pooped as long as they cleaned it up.

I have no dog in this fight ( haha ). But I have to say I live in a similar area where there are smaller lots and everyone has a landscaper- and lately I have been hearing multiple of my neighbors complain of burnt grass and being super annoyed that people allow their dogs to pee on their lawns . Not sure if there is a way to control it- but lots of people definitely get annoyed.

I live 2 blocks off of a main road w not many personal homes. 1. I try to let me dog pee and poop in the yard before we leave so he gets he big stuff out of the way (so I’m not walking 2 miles it’s a bag of poop in my hand) 2. I walk him in the street until we get to the main road. Then he can pee on all the poles and fire hydrants he wants. Just no peeing on peoples lawns.
Listen, maybe your dog doesn’t have high acidic urine. But most animals do. I work with animals for a long time. Most of our clients are always asking us what they can do about the urine burns in the grass. Mostly tell them to try the supplements and if that doesn’t work, hose off where they pee right after to help dilute it. Yes, all animals pee on our lawns all the time BUT, my animals don’t pee in the front yard, only back. So my front lawn is mostly green. If I saw people walking THEIR dogs on my front lawn I’d be furious. My own dogs don’t go there. I don’t want anyone else’s to

My dog stops to pee about every half mile. Not sure if she is peeing or just marking her territory. She pees on my lawn right when we leave the house every morning. I walk with 3 other dogs every day and they all pee multiple times on this walk. In my neighborhood people walk their dogs pretty far distances and there are also dog walkers that take the dogs for long walks so maybe that's why no one seems to care. Also, almost everyone I know has a dog so maybe there's that too? I can totally get why if you neighbor is walking their dog on your lawn, letting it pee and then taking it back inside it would be irritating but if someone was just walking by and their dog happened to pee on my lawn I wouldn't think twice.

I agree with this. I don’t have a dog but everyone in my neighborhood does. As long as they clean up the poop, I’m fine with pee. We have deer, chipmunks, skunks, squirrels etc who most likely pee everywhere as well. I’m more pissed at the chipmunk holes everywhere on my lawn.

Those are wild animals. Dogs have owners, who should know better than to let their animal pee on other people's property. That is extremely rude plus it will attract other dogs to the spot to pee also.

Re: neighbors- WWYD?
To clarify, are you talking about the grass in front of your home or the grass between the sidewalk and road?
I have always been taught that it is ok to let dog pee on then grass next to the road and never to allow them on the rest of the grass. Is this not common etiquette? My dog only goes on the grass on my property but if a neighbor lets their dog go on the strip of grass I don’t mind as long as they pick up poo, they have to go somewhere.

We do not have sidewalks in my neighborhood.

Well I must live in a neighborhood full of rude a** holes because we all let our animals pee whereever the hell they feel like it. You must live in a much nicer neighborhood than I do - free of dog urine on front lawns! I'm thinking you don't own a dog and if you do you must not take it for walks.

Dogs pee everywhere in my neighborhood, too. I live across from a pond and we get a lot of dog walkers because it’s a beautiful area to walk through. We don’t have sidewalks, so there’s nowhere else for them to pee. No one’s grass is yellow, even the grass around the pond, which the town is responsible for. It honestly never occurred to me to be upset if a dog peed on my lawn and I don’t even have a dog.
