Disney World
My kids have been begging me to take them to Disney World... ages 4 and 9. Please recommend kid friendly resorts that won't break the bank lol Definitely want to stay near Magic Kingdom as it seems like that's what they'd enjoy the most.
When is it less crowded? Any advice and tips would be appreciated! Thank you!

Disney World
The best time to go in the near term would probably be right before Labor Day. Many schools starting up and people preparing for school not looking to do vacations like this. Early December is another good time to go that's not as busy.

Agree with the poster above. Traditionally end of August/beginning of September are quiet times. Also first week of Decmber is pretty nice too. Not too hot and less crowds however that was my experience years past. I know things have changed recently. We've been to Disney a million times and those have always been the best times to go IMO.
Personally I like staying on property. We've done Pop Century, All Star Music, Art of Animation. Art of Animation was my favorite followed by Pop Century. Those are the "value" resorts however they are more than enough for young kids. The theme decor is great and we always had a good experience with the eating and pool areas and the transportation too. The rooms are smaller but TBH we don't care since we spend minimal time in the rooms.
Good luck.

If staying on property we do POP Century which is a value, however its closest to HS. There is no values near MK. If I need alot of room, i do AOA suites. I like going in mid November, perfect weather.

Re: Disney World
What is your budget for a hotel per night? Break the bank can mean so many different things to different people. Resorts right next to the MK are deluxe and are expensive. i.e. $500 plus a night. The All Star and Pop Century resorts are the least expensive but very kid friendly. But require a bus ride of 10-15 minutes or so minutes, but it goes fast. Pop Century is probably our favorite of all the value resorts, as it's on the skyliner. All Star Movies has some great theming, kids love that! I do NOT recommend Art of Animation. Cute to walk around at, but not a fan of staying there. We have stayed there a couple of times in the regular rooms, which are Little Mermaid themed, and we just aren't a fan. My daughter said it feels like we are in Party City The beds are full size, vs. queen in the other value resorts. Plus the walk to the main building from those rooms is super far. They have suites that are themed also, we haven't stayed in those.
You easily take the bus to the Magic Kingdom from any resort. We have stayed at every level. Our favorite is the Yacht and Beach Club, we have stayed there a few times, but it's expensive. Worth it though if you have some relaxing resort days planned, since their pool is so awesome!
We go to Disney a lot, sometimes a few times a year, but since the pandemic, it honestly leaves a lot to be desired. SUPER crowded and the lines are hours long. There used to be non busy times back in the day, but it just seems no matter when you go, it's super busy! Very early January should still be a good time though.
ETA, we LOVE Disneyland in California so much more than Disney World. So much less planning, more low key, better themed areas, and you can walk between their two parks. They have so many great lands (Cars Land is AMAZING and so authentic looking, and the National Parks area is just so awesome). Hotels are right across the street from the park, and you can stay at a "non disney" hotel and walk 10 minutes to the gate, if that (all the hotels are on the same strip across the street). And often times the airfare is cheaper to LAX than Orlando in January and February! So if you are open to venturing further away, it's worth it!

Re: Disney World
We have been to Disney twice and going a third time in early December. We usually stay at Pop Century because it is a value resort that is on the skyliner route, we like taking those when we can vs. the bus. The skyliner goes to HS and Epcot. If you want to stay near MK then most likely going to end up at a deluxe resort that is on the monorail line such as Contemporary, Polynesian or Grand Floridian, or accessible via boat like Wilderness Lodge. Again these are going to be pricey resorts. For us it is not worth it because we are literally only in the room to shower and sleep and we are in the parks all day.
They say there is no "down" time in Disney anymore but supposed to be better late August and September, however, it is hotter than the depths of hell at that time lmao.... and I don't think I could ever do Disney in the heat. We have been twice in mid November and the weather was perfect. This trip is going to be early December and we are doing the Mickey Christmas Party this time around.
My friend is a TA who booked everything for us, but you can do it on your own if you want.
