Opinions on potential job
Just wanted to get opinions on a potential job offer I may have.
Pros- job is fully remote (I have been looking for a WFH role for over a year). Job description is similar to current role. I may possibly be moving OOS in the next year and a half to two years so I could still keep the same role.
Cons- less pay... salary range offered is between 6k-11k less than current salary. Less vacation time. Slightly longer days (right now I am paid for my lunch hour)... it is paid hourly though so I do get paid OT if I have to work a weekend.
I am not sure what I should do because although I would love working remotely, I am not sure if I should just settle for less salary/vacation, I am not sure if negotiating is possible if there is a range offered.
Thoughts?

The biggest question would be, would you be happy with only working remote. No hybrid, no going into an office at all.
When I got laid off, I had to take a 9k pay cut and it took me 6 years to recoup it. At the end of the day it was totally worth it for me. The amount of stress is so much less and I am appreciated more than I have ever been in any job I have had.

Even though the pay is less you will be saving a ton of money by not having to commute. Not just gas ....wear and tear on your car etc You will need tires and brakes less often etc You will keep lower mileage on the car. Also you won't have to buy as many work clothes, shoes etc
As far as longer hours- I don't mind working more hours beause I'm home. If I work half an hour more at night, I'm still done sooner than if I had finished at my normal time and had to drive home in traffic. You turn your computer on and you're at work, turn it off and your home from work.
So the hours and the pay aren't that big of a factor when you are going to a fully remote job

I would take the new job. Remote jobs are becoming harder and harder to find now that employers are expecting people back at work. Plus if you are going to potentially move in a couple of years, the stress that will be alleviated by not having to worry about finding a new job is priceless.
Like others said you will save money in numerous ways, no commute, spending less on work clothes, not having to eat lunch out of the house, etc.

This! Both DH and I work from home for many many years. We would never consider having an office job evvvverrrrr.

I would take the remote job. Even if it pays less and you get fewer vacation days, you still win at the end with regards to commute, clothing, and food. Time cannot be bought.
One thing I learned from the pandemic was to separate work from home. If you decide to take the remote job, make sure to keep your office separate from you living area.

I would take it. I know someone who refuses to accept a job if he has to go in, he has been unemployed for a year now. It seems that is most important to you since you have been looking for this aspect for a year now. If the money is not totally a deal breaker, then you can make it work. Especially if you plan to leave the NY area. Good luck!

I would take it - you have been looking for awhile and are unhappy in your current situation.
How much less vacation time do you have? I know it is difficult to use the vacation you have now with your current policies.

But, I would make sure this job aligns with any future career goals you may have (if that’s important to you). You imply you’d be going from salaried to hourly. Is this a consulting job or a full time position within the company? I only ask because consultants generally have fewer benefits and that might affect what you can negotiate. Right now I get 5 weeks plus separate sick time. This would be 3 weeks and 2 personal days I believe sick is lumped within this. Also we are currently closed the week between xmas and new years- this place is open (though you do get xmas and the day after off).

Yes this is true. As a manager, I am salaried and I can work 12 hours a day or on a weekend and not get paid extra for it. It's just "part of the job" My salaried employees get paid OT for anything over 40 hours per week. So you are actually better off because if you have to work extra you will get paid

I meant more in the context of managerial roles tend to be salaried whereas subordinate roles are more likely to be hourly. So if she was previously salaried, would this role be a step down? If there is no inclination toward career advancement in the future, it probably doesn’t matter much. But if there is, taking on a lesser (for lack of a better word) position might be a big resume red flag.

Nope at my last job. They just changed people over after awhile to salary. We could never work from home anyway and it was probably cheaper to do that and easier for payroll.

True. I was trying to figure out with HR why my team was hourly vs another team who was salaried and there was a convoluted explanation about their job title and tasks and if they are being "told what to do" rather than being self directed etc. So yes that is definitely a consideration in terms of career path

That is very interesting. I wonder if that is the norm as I worked at a big company and never made over the "supervisor" title which meant NOTHING as I supervised NO ONE

Either way in the grand scheme 11k is not a lot of money. Especially since it’s life changing to go remote. Also getting paid hourly is way better than salary! You get overtime!

I have always brought lunch or eaten at home so that never is a factor in my salary. Clothes not that much either as I have had casual jobs (this one much more casual).
