I actually found getting the epidural to be by far the most pain I experienced during my labor. I guess I'm in the minority there. After it kicked in though, it was great. It worked too well though b/c I couldn't tell if I was pushing or not -- so they ended up turning off the pump.
No you are not alone. The pricess of actually getting the epidural was the WORST pain of the whole process for me - but in the long run I think the few seconds of horrible pain is better then hours of contractions pain
What exactly is the pain like?
I thought it was just a pinching and slight burning that only lasts a second?
It does only last a few seconds but it was more then a pinch for me! I don't want to scare you and tell you what it was like for me

Re: Question for those of you who've had an epidural
Can i ask what is the difference between a epi and spinal.
Stefanie said she had both and then some of you who had c-sections said they had a spinal.

I think the epi makes you numb from the waist down but the spinal makes you numb from the chest down

For me it was like really bad stomach cramps like when you have to do #2, sorry if that's tmi. For me it was so bad, that I started shaking uncontrolably. you have to realize though, every person's pain tolerance is different.

no, the contractions were like stomach cramps. I though that's what you meant. When I got the epidural I didn't feel a thing, I guess that's how much in pain I was.

Re: Question for those of you who've had an epidural
Just wanted to say that I felt absolutely nothing when I got my epidural - no pinch or anything. I remember that they numbed the area first...

Re: Question for those of you who've had an epidural
Would they give you a spinal if you were delivering vaginally? I am a little scared of the fact that some of you felt like you could not breath.

Re: Question for those of you who've had an epidural
it was weird, but I could care LESS - being out of that pain was worth it. (and I was dead set against the epidural before I went into labor!)
