Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

I am 24 and none of my wisdom teeth have come in. This past week I've been having pain in my mouth and I see a tooth coming through. I can't even chew food properly because just the motion of opening and closing my mouth, causes pain. Isn't it kinda late to have them coming in?
I just made a dentist appointment for next thursday.....I hope it doesn't get worseChat Icon

Anyone else have their wisdom teeth come in this late?

TIA!Chat Icon

No, its totally normal. They will probably recommend pulling them since they are all ready irritating you.

Re: Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

I have 2 wisdom teeth growing in right now! Because I have enough room for them to grow, THANKFULLY I dont need them to get pulled. Once the dentist sees a few x-rays, he will be able to determine if they need to get pulled or not. Chances are the pain you are feeling right now just may be the tooth breaking through the gum which is causing irritation (normal). I hope you feel better. Chat Icon

it's totally normal for them to be coming in now...in the meantime, before you see your dentist...try swishing a either some listerine, or a shot of vodka around in your mouth-the alcohol will dull the pain...

I agree with this! When I had pain with mine I swished around a shot of Irish Whiskey...I haven't had pain since!

It's normal...
I'm 30 and most of mine STILL haven't come in....they're "peaking" through, but full x-rays show they're there!

Re: Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

I have two that never came in until I got braces at age 29. After the braces were on for a little while, one of them came in and the other didn't. I still have both of them in the same condition. I told that as long as nothing is bothering me, it is fine to leave them - but there is room for them both to come in.

ETA: I only have 2 wisdom teeth on the top of my mouth - never had any on the bottom.

Re: Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

I had two pulled at 18, but only one started coming in. The other two I had pulled at 23 and they weren't coming in, but I took advantage of some good insurance I had.

I was told that at about 23 (I'm sure it's give or take a bit) you teeth begin to solidify and it hurts more to get them pulled - so that's why I did it.

My mom's came in at 40!

Re: Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

It could also be that they are growing in sideways and/or are impacted so you never noticed them growing in until now.

Re: Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

It's normal. None of my Wisdom teeth come in but they are all impacted. I am going Thursday to have them all removed b/c my dentist told me that my teeth are shifting b/c of them.

Mine never came in, and while they didn't hurt or get infected, the dentist suggested getting them pulled.

I'm 26 and mine started coming in. I only have the upper 2, none on the bottom & they are 1/2 way in. Mine didn't hurt but I guess it's normal

Re: Is this normal? Wisdom teeth related

my 2 top ones came in a loooooooong time ago but 1 of the bottom ones is only coming in now! its causing a bit of discomfort but my dentist said its just the tooth breaking through the gums. he said i'll probably need it pulled but wants to wait for the other one to come out too so he can just pull them at the same time.
